Peace River Wildlife Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating southwest Florida's native wildlife. We admit injured and orphaned birds, mammals and reptiles and provide necessary medical treatment to aid recovery and re-release into their natural environment. Patients which are deemed non-releasable reside here at the center, where the public can learn about and see first-hand the wide variety of birds and mammals that co-inhabit our area.

Looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of Labor Day weekend?

Spend a little time with native Florida wildlife at Peace River Wildlife Center. A walk through our Education Center is a wonderful way to slow down, enjoy the outdoors and learn more about the permanent residents in our care.

The Education Center is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3400 Ponce de Leon Parkway in Punta Gorda.

We hope you’ll include a visit to PRWC in your holiday weekend plans!

Look at the progress from above!

PRWC’s New Education Center is taking shape at 900 W. Henry Street. This latest drone footage offers a bird’s-eye view of the buildings and future habitats coming together as we move closer to opening our new home later this fall.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone helping make this project possible. There is still time to be part of this exciting next chapter for Peace River Wildlife Center and native Florida wildlife.

Meet September's featured resident of the month:
Chickie Pants arrived at Peace River Wildlife Center in May 2013 after a rescuer responded to a young Sandhill Crane caught in a barbed wire fence. The rescuer also noticed that Chickie’s beak was slightly off-kilter and brought him to PRWC for evaluation.
As Chickie grew, his beak became increasingly deformed, making it impossible for him to feed himself successfully in the wild. Today, he requires regular beak trimming and specially placed food bowls that allow him to eat. He also receives continued care for a condition affecting his right leg that required orthopedic surgery.
Because of these lifelong needs, Chickie Pants remains a permanent resident at PRWC. His story is one example of the specialized care required when wildlife rehabilitation cannot end with release.

It’s that time again! Frequently Asked Friday!

We’re back with another round of questions we hear all the time at our Education Center. This week, we’re answering three of the most common questions visitors ask about our animal ambassadors:

Can I pet it?
Can I have one as a pet?
Will these animals be released?

These questions help open the conversation about why our ambassadors are here, why wild animals should stay wild, and how we can better respect and understand the wildlife around us.
