To The People of the Town of Richland Regarding the Summer Recreation Program

It is with great reservation and sadness to have to inform you that our Summer Recreation Program for 2026 has been cancelled. The process of setting up a program of this magnitude has been very overwhelming this year. The Town Board was informed months ago that all the Pulaski schools would be undergoing a massive renovation project and would not be able to host any programs there this summer. Therefore, we were moving forward planning to host the program at the Haldane Community Center. Then recently, we were informed that the Village of Pulaski is having a massive culvert replacement at the entrance of the facility that would entail the removal and replacement of gas and electric lines, along with temporary road implementations that will continue for quite a while. With that, it created too many other safety issues and obstacles for us to have the program housed at that facility. We have since been offered a couple more location options, thank you, and have been in contact with the health department to see if these locations would work for us and once again have been met with many obstacles. Summer camps for children have many rules, regulations and deadlines to keep all involved safe and must be certified by the County and NYS camp rules.

The Town Board appreciates everyone’s concerns and ideas to assist in still trying to make this program work this year. Our obstacles are plenty and more involved than you can imagine with every different location. These are all unforeseen circumstances beyond anyone's control this year. It most certainly is not from lack of effort!!!

The Town Board also felt they could not wait any longer to begin to hire our full staff and register campers to only find out later that our program could not proceed. We wanted to allow staff enough time to seek other employment and for the parents of the campers to make other arrangements for their children for the summer.
We wish to thank you for your understanding. We will be working diligently to bring this program back next year.

Robert North, Town Supervisor
