Anchor Students

Anchor Students Anchor is the student ministry of The Well Church of God Deriving from Hebrews 6:19, we are a youth group anchored with hope in Jesus.

As our students learn through the teaching and preaching of God's Word, our prayer is to see them draw closer to Jesus on a daily basis. Worship, the Bible, fellowship and outreach are essential keys for us to raise up a generation of hope to reach our community, nation and world.

Jesus is Alive - Every Detail Matters

John 19:16-37 ESV
[16] So he delivered him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus, [17] and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. [18] There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. [19] Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” [20] Many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek. [21] So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but rather, ‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.’” [22] Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.” [23] When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, [24] so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfill the Scripture which says, “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” So the soldiers did these things, [25] but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. [26] When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” [27] Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. [28] After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” [29] A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. [30] When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. [31] Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. [32] So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. [33] But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. [34] But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. [35] He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. [36] For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.” [37] And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.”

Psalm 22:18 ESV
[18] they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.

Psalm 69:21 ESV
[21] They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.

Exodus 12:46 ESV
[46] It shall be eaten in one house; you shall not take any of the flesh outside the house, and you shall not break any of its bones.

Psalm 34:20 ESV
[20] He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.

Zechariah 12:10 ESV
[10] “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.

🌟Every detail of Jesus’s death shows us that God keeps His promises.

Jesus is Alive - The Hardest Yes

Matthew 26:36-46 ESV
[36] Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” [37] And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. [38] Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” [39] And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” [40] And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? [41] Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” [42] Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” [43] And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. [44] So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words again. [45] Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep and take your rest later on. See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. [46] Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand."

Jesus faced the hardest moment of his human life and - He prayed.

He asked for God to take it, but at the end... he said "Your will be done."

Jesus showed honesty with God- He brought his distress directly to God and was honest.

Jesus showed dependence on God- He prayed persistently.

Jesus showed obedience to God- Jesus knew that his death and resurrection was needed.

When life is overwhelming, we can bring it to God- He strengthens us.

🌟Jesus shows us that trusting and obeying God is important, even when that’s hard to do.

When we trust and obey God, we are following Jesus's example and showing that our faith is real, even when life is hard or scary.

Jesus is Alive - Session 1
What is the biggest crowd you have ever been involved in?

John 12:12-18 ESV
[12] The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. [13] So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” [14] And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, [15] “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” [16] His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. [17] The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. [18] The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.

Many wanted to follow Jesus when
He was meeting their expectations.

🌟Following Jesus because of signs or expectations leads to a fragile faith.

🌟Strong faith chooses Jesus over what we want or expect.

Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
[28] “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

The Pressures of Home Life
Instability, conflicts, and expectations are all struggles that we can feel at home.

David experienced some pressures.

1 Samuel 16:6-7 NIV
[6] When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” [7] But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

1 Samuel 16:10-13 NIV
[10] Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.” [11] So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” [12] So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” [13] So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.

What are some expectations that are put on you?

Pressure is real and can be overwhelming!

People don't determine your future. God sees your whole story not just a chapter.

God is working behind the scenes, even when you don't feel Him.

1 Samuel 18:6-11 NIV
[6] When the men were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs and with timbrels and lyres. [7] As they danced, they sang: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.” [8] Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?” [9] And from that time on Saul kept a close eye on David. [10] The next day an evil spirit from God came forcefully on Saul. He was prophesying in his house, while David was playing the lyre, as he usually did. Saul had a spear in his hand [11] and he hurled it, saying to himself, “I’ll pin David to the wall.” But David eluded him twice.

1 Samuel 19:1-2 NIV
[1] Saul told his son Jonathan and all the attendants to kill David. But Jonathan had taken a great liking to David [2] and warned him, “My father Saul is looking for a chance to kill you. Be on your guard tomorrow morning; go into hiding and stay there.

Even when David was surrounded by conflict, God protected and guided Him.

David had to learn to trust God in a deeper way.

God never intended for you to deal with these things on your own.

Psalms 34:1, 4, 18 NIV
[1] I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.
[4] I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
[18] The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
God helped David in every chapter of His life despite the circumstance.

🌟When home feels stressful, God helps us handle the expectations, conflict, and instability.

God is constant.

When everything feels temporary. God is permanent!

Performing Under Pressure

Esther was in a life or death moment.

Esther 4:14 NLT
[14] If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”

Esther 4:16 NLT
[16] “Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.”

Esther built a rhythm of dependence on God.

Esther built habits that steadied her before the pressure.

What you practice in times of calm is what shows up under stress.

Esther knew she was not walking into the room alone.

Choose to move forward because you trust that God is with you.

Pressure shrinks and your perspective shifts when you know God is with you!

Esther focused on the next faithful step.

God is present in every step.

🌟God meets you before, in, and after the pressure.

God does not only show up if you win, He cares about every moment.

More Than My Grade

Pressure is always trying to shape and form us.

Isaiah 40:28-31 NLT
[28] Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. [29] He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. [30] Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. [31] But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

God lifts us up in a way that we could never do on our own.

We can rest in HIS strength!

Ephesians 2:10 NLT
[10] For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
A masterpiece is something that the creator is proud of!

Genesis 1:27 NLT
[27] So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

You are not just a random creation - you are made in God's image!

Your worth was settled on the cross!

🌟School pressure tries to shape you, but Jesus wants to ground you. You are more than your grades.

Jesus wants to ground you in the truth that you are loved and valued.

First... name the pressure. Then... separate your performance from your worth.

When you feel the pressure, let it remind you to rely on God!

Try your best and leave the rest to God!

Conquering Life Challenges
We all face tough times... sometimes it is by our poor choices and sometimes it is just that life has challenging obstacles.

Romans 8:28 NLT
[28] And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
We know - we don't have to guess...

God causes EVERYTHING to work together FOR the good...

God gives us free will - so we have a choice.

God has a mission...
1. To share His Kingdom with us.
2. To redeem His people when they wander.
3. To invite His people to be part of His plan to redeem the rest of the world.

God invites us to be a part of His mission.

When we stay focus on God, He builds perseverance and resilience in us...
-perseverance: ability to persist and keep going
-resilience: ability to bounce back after a set back

Grit - the strength to keep going, even when you feel like you can't.

🌟Challenges shape your purpose as you trust in God.

Good and bad challenges be difficult to determine in the moment when we can't see the bigger picture- example: it could be viewed as bad to break your arm; however, when they do the x-ray something else is discovered and now can be fixed... because of the broken arm - could have a good outcome!

God works ALL things out for the good.
