Jeff Wilkerson, who previously served as Dean of Students, will now oversee South's thriving sports programs as Athletics Director/Assistant Principal.

Mr. Wilkerson replaces Chris James, who retired this year.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT PROFILE
Aaron Cruz, Pueblo South High School, will use a Presidential Merit Scholarship, a First Generation Scholarship and the Jacqueline Hirsch Scholarship to attend Colorado State University Pueblo to pursue a degree in Social Work with a goal to become a hospice care social worker.

“My high school experience has prepared me for this next step by giving me teachers and counselors who are extremely helpful,” Aaron said. “Mrs. Olsen and Ms.Thomson made an immense impact on my high school experience by creating a positive environment and always pushing me to do my best.”

Interested in marching band, color guard, percussion, or the South High School Music Program?

For Ms. Rosa's Spanish 2 final project, C**ts were invited to explore the rich history of Spanish-speaking nations in the FIFA World Cup.

Students investigated multiple "America" countries, their achievements, famous players, and cultural significance in the sport of soccer.

"As the World Cup is being played in three different countries for the first time, students had fun learning more about it and now can better understand the 'Americas' and their history in the World Cup," said Ms. Rosa, a native of Brazil and fan of that country's soccer team.

For the project, students had three creative options:

1. Produce a trading card for a Spanish-speaking country player.

2. Create a shirt of your official team selection.

3. Create a social media campaign promoting a Spanish-speaking country's World Cup achievements.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT PROFILE
Diana Flores Hortado, Pueblo South High School, received a total of 18 scholarship offers: most of which she accepted. These include the full ride Kane Family Scholarship, a Presidential Merit Scholarship, and a First Generation Scholarship.

“As a first generation college student at Colorado State University Pueblo, I will be joining an Honors and Leadership Program with plans for a Master’s degree in architecture. This reflects my passions for community engagement and philanthropy,” she said.

“I definitely feel like my high school experience has prepared me for this next step. There were many people at South who pushed me to work harder and try new things: which helped me not be scared when new opportunities emerge. My high school experience has prepared me to expect the unexpected and how to overcome challenges that emerge."
