We’re excited to share continued progress in the North Pueblo Urban Renewal Area (URA)!

Established in 2006, this project launched with the $14.5 million Dillon Interchange designed to improve access and support future retail and dining development. The project was made possible through a strong funding partnership, including $10.9 million from Federal and CDOT resources secured by the City of Pueblo and a $4 million Tax Increment Finance bond issued by PURA.

Since then, the North Pueblo URA has experienced tremendous growth, bringing new shopping, hotels and dining opportunities to our community including the Pueblo Crossing Shopping Center, a variety of restaurants, and the newest addition: LongHorn Steakhouse, coming soon!

We encourage everyone to continue supporting our local businesses!

Today, we pause to remember the devastating 1921 flood that struck Pueblo on this day. The images in these photos reflect the destruction we faced, but they also reflect the strength we found. From the flood waters rose a community determined not just to survive, but to rebuild.

Today, PURA commemorates not only the tragedy we endured, but the resilience that defines us. Pueblo, we remember, we honor, and we rise together.

Exciting momentum continues in PURA’s Lake Minnequa Urban Renewal Area!

A new Starbucks has officially opened, and even more development is on the horizon with a Chipotle restaurant and QuikTrip fuel station currently in progress. As activity increases, so does the need for infrastructure improvements—plans are underway for median enhancements and permanent traffic signal upgrades to support safe and efficient travel.

PURA is partnering with the City and the developer to explore the use of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to help fund these critical improvements.

In addition, the PURA Board recently approved a Purchase and Sale Agreement for the sale of the Sunnyside Lots, paving the way for continued growth and investment in the area.

With this Urban Renewal Area set to expire in 2032, the PURA Board is actively discussing how best to support and sustain this growth in the years ahead. Stay tuned—there’s more to come!

It is Economic Development Week, and in Pueblo that impact is real!

When you look at major employers like CS Winds and Rocky Mountain Steel, you are seeing more than buildings and infrastructure. You are seeing what’s possible when a community invests in itself.

These projects do not happen by accident. Tools like TIF help close critical gaps, making it possible for large scale employers to locate in Pueblo, expand here, and create quality jobs for our residents. Without these tools, many of these opportunities would not pencil.

As economic development evolves in Pueblo, it’s not just about large employers, it’s also about placemaking, supporting small business prosperity, and creating vibrant districts where people want to live, work and spend time. From revitalized corridors to locally owned storefronts, these investments are shaping the character and resilience of our community.

At PURA, we are proud to work with our economic development partners to turn vision into reality by supporting projects that strengthen our local economy today and build momentum for tomorrow.

Economic development isn’t just about growth, it’s about creating opportunity!
