Did you know dragonflies play a vital role as a predatory insect in our ecosystems? They even go after grasshoppers! These colorful flyers we often see are called Blue Dash Dragonfly’s and they belong to the skimmer family. They eat a lot of mosquito larvae and this particular species spend most of its life as a nymph which is the stage in their life cycle where they are waterborne instead of airborne. Some species have been observed to stay in this stage for up to 5 years before maturing to adulthood and flying.

As an outdoor community highlight we'd like to shine the light on San Isabel lake up in the Greenhorn Mountains by Rye Colorado. This is a great place to go fishing and hiking. There's also a great piece of CO history up there with the The Lodge at San Isabel - Cabins, Restaurant, & Store. With the nice weather we've been having we encourage you to get out and explore many of our natural areas in our community like San Isabel. We will continue to highlight other natural areas in our community during the summer!

If you've been wondering how did May help us for our drought situation and what is it looking like for June? Well, as you can from these maps it's still dry but we have a good chance at getting some more moisture this month and in the coming months. While this is a positive, we also need to realize the amount we will likely be receiving is not enough to undo the drought stress our pastures and crops are experiencing. Be sure to have your drought plan ready for action this year. To read more reports check out this helpful link:https://arkcollaborative.org/blog/
