Today, we honor and thank Captain Devan Tandy for 21 years of dedicated service with Provo Fire & Rescue.

Throughout his career, Captain Tandy has served in a variety of leadership roles, including as a Captain at Station 25 and as a Captain in our Training Division, where he helped mentor, train, and develop countless firefighters. He also served on the department’s SWAT and SRT teams, demonstrating his commitment to specialized response and public safety.

Whether responding to emergencies, leading crews in the field, or preparing the next generation of firefighters for success, Captain Tandy has consistently exemplified professionalism, leadership, and service above self.

Thank you, Captain Tandy, for your 21 years of dedication to Provo Fire & Rescue and the community we serve. Your impact on this department will be felt for years to come.

🔥 Level 1 Fire Restrictions Now in Effect in the Provo City Watershed 🔥

Due to increasing fire danger and dry conditions, Level 1 Fire Restrictions have been implemented in the Provo City Watershed.

The watershed includes all mountains and canyons along the east bench of Provo City from Springville to Provo Canyon, including South Fork Canyon.

Under these restrictions:
✅ Fires are allowed only in approved fire pits with metal fire rings in developed campgrounds and picnic areas, and in permanently installed fire pits on residential properties.
🚫 No open fires outside of approved locations.
🚫 No fireworks.
🚫 No burning of debris.

Human-caused fires remain the leading cause of wildfires. By following these restrictions, you can help protect our watershed, natural resources, homes, and community.

Before heading outdoors, know the restrictions and do your part to prevent wildfires.

🚒 Is the fire hydrant in front of your home ready for an emergency?

When firefighters arrive at a structure fire or brush fire, every second counts. Overgrown bushes, shrubs, and landscaping around fire hydrants can delay access to the water supply needed to protect lives and property.

Did you know? The fire code requires property owners to maintain a minimum of 3 feet of clear space around fire hydrants in front of their homes and keep them free of vegetation, fences, vehicles, and other obstructions.

We encourage all residents to take a few minutes to trim back shrubs and clear any obstacles around hydrants near their homes. This simple step helps firefighters gain immediate access to water during an emergency and can make a critical difference when protecting lives and property.

Please join us in celebrating Captain Devan Tandy on his 21 years of dedicated service with Provo Fire & Rescue.

Throughout his career, Captain Tandy served our community with professionalism, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. In addition to his frontline service, he was a valued member of our Training Division, helping develop and mentor the next generation of firefighters and ensuring our personnel are prepared to meet the challenges of the job.

His dedication has left a lasting impact on our department, our firefighters, and the citizens we serve.

Wildfire mitigation in action!

On May 16, Provo Fire & Rescue’s Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Fuels Crew partnered with the Quail Valley HOA and residents to reduce wildfire risk in one of Provo’s most vulnerable wildland-urban interface neighborhoods.

Through vegetation removal, chipping operations, and defensible space efforts, residents worked alongside our crew to help create a safer community and better protect homes from the threat of wildfire.

Projects like this are a team effort, and we’re grateful for the residents who took the time to prepare their properties and invest in wildfire resilience. We’d also like to thank our partners at Provo Parks & Recreation and Provo Power for their continued support and collaboration in helping make these mitigation projects possible.

Remember: the work you do around your home today can make a significant difference during wildfire season.

After 27 years of dedicated service with Provo Fire & Rescue, Captain Dan Cather is hanging up his helmet.

Throughout his career, Dan played a pivotal role in building and strengthening Provo’s wildland program while also serving nationally as a Type III Incident Commander. His leadership took him across the country, supervising complex wildfire incidents and bringing that invaluable experience back home to our community.

Thank you, Captain Cather, for your leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the safety of others. Congratulations on a well-earned retirement!
