Finals are done—congratulations on finishing the semester!

As you head into summer, take time to rest and recharge, but don’t step away from making a difference! There are many ways you can stay civically engaged all summer long: volunteering in your community, showing up to local events, supporting causes you care about, or simply staying informed on the issues that matter.

Wherever summer takes you, your voice and efforts can make a difference. Have an amazing summer!

Want to better understand how local government works and how you can get involved? Join us tomorrow, April 9th, from 7–8:30 pm in 110 TNRB for a panel on understanding Local Government!

Hear from incredible panelists with a variety of perspectives on working within the city, ask your questions, and gain insight into different roles and pathways in local leadership. This is a great opportunity to connect, learn from leaders’ experiences, and explore how you can make a difference in your community.

This event is hosted in collaboration with Engage Together and was planned as Madisen’s capstone project for the Civic Engagement minor—come support her and be part of the conversation!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our community garden cleanup a few weeks ago!

We had such a great time pulling weeds, laying fresh soil, and enjoying the beautiful weather together. Your willingness to serve and support our community made all the difference, and the garden is better because of you!

Last semester in FHSS 300, Mary, Lauren, and Madisen partnered with Downtown Provo, Inc to tackle a real community challenge: BYU students don’t often engage downtown or with Provo much at all.

Using both surveys and interviews, they conducted quantitative and qualitative research to better understand student habits and created a strategic plan to help downtown events and businesses reach more BYU students.

Projects like this don’t just build résumés — they build communities and help people see themselves as active contributors wherever they live.

So you care… now what?

Join us for a lecture with Becky Edwards on Thursday, February 19 at 5 pm in 238 HRCB.

Becky served 10 years in the Utah House of Representatives, ran for both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate, and later founded a political action committee with a 75% success rate getting candidates elected.

In her talk, “So You Care… Now What?”, she’ll share her career journey and what civic engagement can actually look like when you’re ready to move from caring to doing.
