We've heard Provo residents' calls to protect Slate Canyon, and this year the City, Utah Open Lands, and Conserve Utah Valley have been working together to make that happen. The Council is considering a conservation easement to preserve land near the mouth of Slate Canyon forever.

A conservation easement is a legal agreement that limits how land can be used. Under the proposed Slate Canyon easement, the land would remain City-owned and could still be used for trails, parks, and public infrastructure, but it would prevent residential and commercial development.

Councilor Jeff Whitlock is working to move the conservation forward. Talk with him, other elected officials, and partners at the Slate Canyon Open House on June 13th, 8:30 am at Slate Canyon Park.

Congratulations to Cassidy Clegg Smith, Provo's May 2026 Employee of the Month!

Barb Smith, Director of Communications for Provo City, spoke highly of Cassidy:

"Cassidy began her career with Provo City in 2018 as a graphic designer for the Covey Center for the Arts, where her creativity and talent quickly stood out.

She became the city's primary graphic artist and designer in 2021. Since stepping into her current role, she has consistently gone above and beyond to serve all of the departments across the city and our residents, too.

If you work for Provo, then her artistic talents have already touched you in some way. From email signatures and logo creation to the annual water report, stickers, event and retirement flyers, banners, the monthly newsletter, graphics and content design, and assistance with the website, as well as ad campaigns, she brings color and visual communications to all of our Provo residents.

While her talents as a designer are well known, her reputation for customer service is equally strong, and she is widely regarded as exceptional with people. She remains calm under tight deadlines and is passionate about helping others bring their ideas to life.

Cassidy's work ethic and commitment are unmatched, and she takes pride in ensuring that every design is just right. Cassidy is truly an invaluable member of our team, and we are deeply grateful for her professionalism, creativity, and dedication to serving our staff and our residents."

Congratulations, Cassidy! 🎉

Provo City Council - Work Meeting | May 26, 2026

This Memorial Day, we heard from leaders who spoke of sacrifice, youth who implored us to stand for our beliefs with the courage of our forefathers, and veterans who reminded us that “freedom has never been free.”

Niles Herrod, DDS, retired Lt. Commander of the U.S. Navy, saw firsthand the tragedies of war when he surgically repaired oral and facial injuries sustained by Marines. He asked us to take pride in our flag, to honor the 250 years of sacrifice it represents.

Thank you to all the speakers, the Freedom Festival, Timpview High School Band, Provo City Cemetery, Provo City Police, and especially to the veterans and military families.
