Last week four of our members attended Arson II at the Kentucky State Fire School in Lexington. The class covered investigation methodology, scene photography, evidence collection and chain of custody, interview/interrogation techniques, origin-and-cause determination, burn-pattern recognition, and electrical-fire analysis. We also processed a scene that had burned two days earlier, and one of the groups presented their case in a mock trial judged by Arson III students and attorneys from the district attorney’s office. These investigative skills are crucial not only for determining arson but also for ruling it out when fires are accidental. Huge thanks to the Kentucky State Fire Commission instructors, IAAI instructors, Lexington Fire Dept. Arson Division, Jessamine County Fire Dept., the ATF, and the detectives who taught the class — easily one of the best training experiences I’ve attended.

Some friendships are built over years, and some are built through long shifts, late-night calls, challenging moments, and shared experiences. What started as three coworkers working together at Providence Fire Department turned into a friendship that goes far beyond the job.

We’ve answered calls side by side, supported each other through the highs and lows, shared plenty of laughs, and created memories that will last a lifetime. This weekend, we had the opportunity to celebrate Nathan and Brooklyn as they said “I do”, and it was a reminder that we’re more than coworkers….we’re family.

Grateful for the friendships this profession has given us. We wish the newlyweds a happy and prosperous life 🥂

It is disheartening to see leaders or team members publicly criticize their colleagues. Blasting a coworker doesn't demonstrate superiority; it often reveals a failure to collaborate or help fix the underlying issue. It is important to remember that outsiders don't respect gossip—they simply enjoy the drama. True leadership is found in private mentorship, not public disparagement.

Behind every siren is a team willing to leave their families, miss holidays, lose sleep, work long hours, and walk into chaos to help complete strangers on what may be the worst day of their lives.

During EMS Week, we proudly recognize the men and women who dedicate themselves to serving others during emergencies, illness, uncertainty, and crisis.

To our EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters: thank you for your sacrifice, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to this community. Your willingness to answer the call at any hour, provide care in difficult situations, and remain calm under pressure makes an immeasurable difference in the lives of those we serve. Thank you for the sacrifices you make, the compassion you show, and the courage you carry every single day. You are often the calm in someone’s storm and the helping hand in moments that matter most.

EMS is not simply a profession; it is service rooted in compassion, teamwork, and dedication. EMS professionals see heartbreak, fear, tragedy, and loss, but they also witness hope, healing, survival, and strength. They kneel beside the scared, comfort the hurting, fight for lives, and carry burdens many never see.

To the citizens of our community: thank you for your trust and continued support. It is a privilege to care for our neighbors when they need us most.
