Providence Police officers recently joined the Thunder baseball team—sponsored by the Providence Police Department and Providence FOP Lodge #3—for an afternoon of fun, mentorship, and community connection.

The team proudly carries the name “Thunder” in honor of Thunder, a beloved Providence Police Mounted Command horse who recently passed away. His memory lives on through these young athletes, with his image proudly displayed on their team jerseys.

Officers and players came together for a practice session, followed by team photos and free ice cream for the kids. Events like these help strengthen positive relationships between officers and youth while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy activities.

Thank you to the Southside and everyone who helped make this special day possible and to the players, families, and coaches who continue to make a positive impact in our community. ⚾🐴🍦💙

Today is Global Running Day, a holiday that celebrates the sport of running and encourages everyone to go out and get moving. Last week, I was honored to be a part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run and run alongside our police officers, correctional officers and firefighters to raise awareness for Special Olympics Rhode Island.

We were honored to participate in the 2026 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run yesterday, joining law enforcement agencies from across Rhode Island in carrying the Flame of Hope to the RI Statehouse. Thank you to everyone who supported this incredible tradition and the amazing Special Olympics athletes who inspire us all. 💙🏃‍♂️🔥
