Last week, we convened a meeting in Providence with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse use, where a cross-section of network members described the impacts of federal decisions to strip funding away from local and regional food systems work in Rhode Island. We urged him to support legislation that restores this funding and protects food security for all Rhode Islanders.

Two important messages from the senator:

1) Tell Dan McKee to fund our state agencies to get new paperwork requirements for SNAP in tip-top shape. The biggest way for Rhode Island to lose SNAP funding and for folks to lose SNAP benefits is through paperwork errors.
2) Put pressure on the Senate appropriations committee to move legislation forward. Senator Collins, our neighbor in Maine, needs to hear from her constituents that it's time to support our farmers, food businesses, and system and to move legislation. Do you know any folks in Maine who she should hear from?
