Pedro Espinal showed incredible leadership and professionalism before the council last night, April 2, at the first full council vote on the Providence rent control ordinance. On April 16, there will be a second vote on the rent control ordinance.
Councilman Espinal made several valid points regarding the harsh implications this policy will have on Providence. Not only will the negative impacts relay to landlords and tenants, but every resident of the city.
Thank you to the six councilors who stood for truth, transparency, and responsible decision-making. Let’s move the city forward on a positive path and vote no to rent control.

La estabilidad de la vivienda es fundamental para la salud y el bienestar de nuestras comunidades, por lo que anunciamos el Fondo RENT. Este fondo brindará a los vecinos de Providence que atraviesan dificultades un apoyo vital para evitar que una crisis inesperada se convierta en un desplazamiento permanente.

Esta propuesta se basa en nuestra estrategia integral para proteger a los inquilinos mediante la defensa contra el desalojo, mantener viviendas seguras a través del cumplimiento de los códigos de construcción y ampliar la educación tanto para propietarios como para inquilinos. Al mismo tiempo, estamos abordando la causa principal de la crisis de la vivienda invirtiendo en el Fondo Fiduciario de Vivienda de Providence y trabajando para construir más viviendas asequibles en toda la ciudad, de modo que cada vecino tenga un lugar seguro y estable al que llamar hogar.
