West Benton Fire Rescue

West Benton Fire Rescue West Benton Fire Rescue is a combination Career/Volunteer fire department, based in Prosser WA We invite any comments or questions that you may have.

The City of Prosser and Benton County Fire District 3 have enjoyed a unique and successful joint Fire/EMS service relationship since the 1950's. By combining their financial, staffing, facility and fleet resources, there is significant evidence of effective and efficient operations for Prosser Fire District 3 and there is evidence that the joint operation has been able to provide a level of servic

e to each jurisdiction that would not be possible on their own. As with most public partnerships, there are always predictable shifts in policy, participation and proliferation of services. These shifts result in the need to re-evaluate and "re-tool" the relationship in order to keep up with the various growth and demand factors in each jurisdiction. Such was the case with the City of Prosser and Benton County Fire District 3. West Benton Fire & Rescue is the result of those changing demands and the recommendations of the Prosser Citizens Task Force. West Benton Fire & Rescue is a combination fire department consisting of volunteer firefighters and full time career. We operate out of two stations providing service to 13,000 residents covering 176 square miles of urban, rural, and agricultural land. West Benton Fire and Rescue personnel are trained in an array of expertise such as: wildland and structural firefighting, ILS (Intermidiate Life Support) medical response, Hazmat, technical rescue and various other rescue operations including swift water. The Chief and Captains provide code enforcement, fire prevention and public education with support from our volunteer firefighters. We are very proud of our member's commitment and dedication to this department and the community to whom they serve. If you would like a tour of our facilities, please give us a call.

Please join us in welcoming our two new seasonal firefighters to the department! Gage Newhouse (Left) and Destiny Barrera (Right). Both are former Resident Firefighters who have already dedicated countless hours serving our community, and we’re excited to have them back on the team this summer.

As wildland fire season approaches, these seasonal positions help strengthen our staffing and improve our ability to respond quickly and safely during the busiest time of year. Their experience, training, and commitment will be a huge asset to our department and community.

We’re proud to continue building the next generation of firefighters while keeping our community protected during fire season. Be sure to say hello when you see them around town! 🌲🔥🚒

Today, we join departments across the nation in lowering our flags to half-staff in honor of Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day.
This solemn gesture serves as a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of the men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty. They answered the call without hesitation, placing service above self to protect their communities.
We pause to remember our fallen brothers and sisters, to honor their legacy, and to keep their families and loved ones in our thoughts.
Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🖤🚒

West Benton Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire early this morning in an area located within the geographic boundaries of the district that does not receive fire protection services.

When crews arrived on scene, approximately ¾ of the structure was already involved in fire and strong winds were contributing to rapidly spreading flames. West Benton Fire Rescue firefighters focused their efforts on scene safety and protecting nearby exposures. Because the property is outside of the fire district’s protection area, crews did not engage in fire suppression on the involved structure.

The residence was a total loss. One adult male was displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross has been contacted to assist, and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Foundation will help provide immediate accommodations and necessities.

West Benton Fire Rescue remains committed to protecting the community and appreciates the continued support of district residents.
