You are warmly invited to join us for a special afternoon of service, connection, and community.

Cupcakes & Kindness is more than a volunteer event—it’s a chance to come together across generations and backgrounds to make a meaningful impact right here in our community.

Together, we will prepare fresh salads and bake cupcakes for 40–50 guests of the JOURNEYS STEP Shelter in Palatine, offering not just food, but care, dignity, and welcome.

Bring your children, invite a friend, or come on your own—we’ll have meaningful ways for everyone to participate. At our last gathering, volunteers described the experience as a joyful, interfaith, intergenerational celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. In fact, the inspiration for this event came from an 8-year-old participant who said, “There’s no better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.”

What to expect:
•A hands-on, 90-minute service experience
•Opportunities for all ages to contribute
•A warm, welcoming environment rooted in shared purpose
•A chance to connect with fellow League members and community partners
•This event reflects the League’s commitment to civic engagement in action—showing how small acts of kindness can ripple outward to create real change.
•We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful and memorable afternoon.

Neighbors helping neighbors—one cupcake at a time.

We invite fellow members of the League of Women Voters to attend the Viator House Village Dinner and stand in solidarity with our neighbors seeking safety and dignity. Viator House of Hospitality provides a safe, supportive home for young asylum-seeking immigrants as they navigate the legal process and build new lives in the U.S., offering education, language support, and community while they await their hearings. As League members committed to immigrant rights and protections through due process and to opposing hate and discrimination—central priorities of our work—we know that building inclusive, compassionate communities is essential to a healthy democracy. Your presence at this event not only supports Viator House’s vital mission, but also reinforces our League’s values in action.

**All tickets include a delicious family-style meal including appetizers, salad, pasta, chicken and dessert. Vegetarian friendly and gluten-free upon request. Cash bar.**

Women and families disproportionately face the worst consequences of grand corruption. When corrupt leaders rob their countries of wealth, child mortality rates increase, access to basic services like healthcare and education are reduced, inequality is exacerbated, violence from repressive governments and organized crime increases, and fundamental trust in institutions erodes. A movement has emerged for an International Anti-Corruption Court (IACC) that could fill the enforcement gap in the international framework for combating grand corruption.
JOIN US for an expert panel discussion of how the IACC can help deter corruption and return illicit assets to benefit the most vulnerable and the public good.

Our Panel of Expert Speakers:
- Justice Richard Goldstone, First Prosecutor of the International Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, a former Constitutional Court Justice of South Africa, and Board Member of Integrity Initiatives International (III)
- Serena Ibrahim, Founder of Youth Against Corruption
- Casey Michel, Head of the Human Rights Foundation’s Combating Kleptocracy Program
- Hon. Allan Rock, Chair of III’s IACC Treaty Committee, former Canadian Minister of Justice and Ambassador to the UN
- Rebecca Shoot, Advisory Board Member of III, an international lawyer and democracy practitioner

Moderator:
- Karin Landgren, Expert in International Peace building

Co-sponsors: LWVUS, Bahá'i International Community, Integrity Initiatives International

Important information for vote-by-mail voters 🚨
Mail postmark rules have changed. Ballots are now postmarked when processed, not when you drop them in the mailbox—this can cause 1–2 day delays.
If you’re returning your ballot close to Election Day:
• Request a manual postmark at the post office
• Use a secure drop box
• Deliver directly to your election office
Don’t risk a late postmark. Make sure your vote counts. 🗳️
