From Refuge Staff:
Due to forecasted snow and ice, the Prairie’s Edge Wildlife Drive will not open to vehicle traffic on April 1 as previously planned. Road conditions will be reassessed on April 6, and an updated determination on the vehicle opening date will be shared at that time. Please note that vehicles may access the Wildlife Drive up to the Welcome Station at this time. As always, the Drive remains open beyond the Welcome Station for hiking and biking from one half hour before sunrise to one half hour after sunset.
We’re just as eager as you are to get back out on the Wildlife Drive this season. However, opening the Drive too early, while the ground is still soft, can cause significant damage to the road surface and might cause us to close it at a later time. Taking a little extra time now helps protect the Drive so it remains safe, enjoyable and in good condition for everyone throughout the season.
