WE ARE HIRING:
CLASS TITLE: Public Works Superintendent
PURPOSE OF CLASS: Manage and plan all tasks relating to the public works of the Town including water, sewer, streets, drainage and property and grounds.
PRIMARY TASKS:
Leads the Public Words Department.
Reports on department activity monthly to Town Board.
Serves as Operator in Responsible Charge Or backup for all permitted systems.
Responds to water and sewer emergencies 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Updates the Town Board monthly.
Operates all equipment necessary to maintain the public works of the Town.
Performs numerous maintenance and construction tasks in addition to equipment operation.
Performs all preventative maintenance service on trucks and equipment.
Performs Other duties as required.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Dump truck, Backhoe, Garbage Truck, Tractor, Bush hog, Lawnmower, W**d Eater, Sewer Jetter, Sewer Camera, Biological lab testing equipment, hand
tools and other equipment as required.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the Town Administrator
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work involves general physical hazards of working with
equipment in operation; exposure to inclement weather conditions; work involves lifting,
crawling and climbing in performing the operation of the equipment or as a laborer.
QUALIFICATIONS OF CLASS:
Education: Associates Degree or high school diploma with equivalent work
experience.
Experience: Five years or more of related experience preferred. 5-10 years in a leadership and/or supervisor role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of rules and regulations penaining to the operation of all Town Of Princeton.
Permitted Town Public Works including water distribution, sewer collections and sewer treatment
Knowledge of state laws pertaining to Operation Of equipment On highways.
Skill in operation of assigned equipment.
Ability to complete training and testing to obtain necessary certifications to Operate Town Public Works
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to lead and direct others.
Ability to withstand exposure to varied climatic conditions.
Ability to perform strenuous work.
Ability to deal courteously with the general public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Ability to respect public and personal property and handle same with care.
Ability to become licensed to spray pesticides and insecticides.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an appropriate and valid North Carolina Driver' License.

CLASS TITLE: Maintenance Technician I
PURPOSE OF CLASS: General maintenance of town properties and utility systems under direct supervision.
PRIMARY TASKS:
Assists in the maintenance gutters, street signs and streets.
Assists in the cleaning of ditches, gutters, culverts and other drainage structures.
Assists in grounds maintenance and landscaping.
Assist with park maintenance including cleaning restrooms, walkways and trashcans.
Assists with various special projects, including large-scale community events.
Assists in paving streets and potholes.
Assists in maintenance and repair of water distribution and sewer collection systems.
Assists with reading water meters.
Assists in the collection of household solid waste.
Assists in the collection of leaves and limbs.
Maintains good relationships with the public through respect for individual property.
Performs other maintenance tasks as required.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Small dump truck, Backhoe, Garbage Truck, Tractor, Bush hog, Lawnmower, W**d Eater, Edger, Blower, Sewer jetter, hand tools and other equipment as required.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the Public Works Superintendent.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is primarily out of doors and involves general physical hazards of working with equipment in operation; exposure to inclement weather conditions; and involves lifting, crawling and climbing in performing the operation of equipment or as a laborer.
QUALIFICATIONS OF CLASS:
Education: High school graduation or GED preferred.
Experience: No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of general practices applied in care and safe operation of equipment.
Knowledge of state laws pertaining to operation of equipment on highways.
Skill in operation of assigned equipment.
Ability to read and write.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to withstand exposure to varied climatic conditions.
Ability to perform strenuous work for long periods of time.
Ability to deal courteously with the public.
Ability to cooperate and work well as a team member.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Ability to respect public and personal property and handle it with care.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s License and ability to acquire CDL certifications to operate a municipal garbage truck.
Pay Range: $40,000 - $46,000
