The Department of Public Works remains fully staffed, and crews will continue plowing roads this evening where additional passes were not previously completed due to the volume of work.

Additional plowing will take place tomorrow to resolve any remaining issues.

𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐏𝐀𝐋 𝐋𝐎𝐓 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒
🔹Both commuter lots (South Avenue Lot 3 and Watterson Street Lot 6) are clear and available for use.
🔹Lots 2 and 8 at the north side train station are also clear.
🔹Lot 1 (behind Trader Joe's) and Lot 5 (behind Starbucks) are closed to cars and will be plowed tomorrow before reopening.
🔹Lot 4 (behind Baron's) and Lot 7 (across from the Post Office) will also be plowed tomorrow.

𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐒
Portions of the following streets are closed and have not been plowed due to utility issues:
🔹St. Marks Avenue between Chestnut and Stanley (downed wire)
🔹Springfield Avenue near Cardinal Drive (three utility poles down due to a motor vehicle accident)

The Town is coordinating remediation with PSE&G, and plowing will take place once crews can safely access these areas.

𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆
Shoveling crews began initial work on Town-owned sidewalks today and will continue throughout the week.

Sidewalks are the responsibility of the abutting property owner and must be cleared within 24 hours after the snow has stopped falling. This requirement includes homes with sidewalks located behind their property. In addition, shoveling or blowing snow into a plowed street is banned. Thanks to the many residents and business owners who have already cleared their sidewalks.

𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒
🔹Town Hall and Westfield Memorial Library will be open on Tuesday for normal business hours.
🔹Tuesday evening's Town Council meeting will proceed as scheduled.
🔹The Conservation Center will re-open on Wednesday.
🔹Curbside recycling collection for Zone 1 will take place on Tuesday, and each additional zone for this week will be delayed by one day.
🔹Westfield Public Schools advised this evening that schools remain closed on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for our area from 1:00 PM Sunday through 6:00 PM Monday, with 12-18 inches of snow anticipated, as well as wind gusts of up to 50 MPH, poor visibility, and the potential for power outages. Governor Sherrill has declared a State of Emergency for all 21 counties, beginning at 12:00 PM Sunday.

𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒
The entire Department of Public Works will be brought in Sunday to complete all necessary plowing.

Public Ordinance 2070 prohibits parking on any street in Westfield when three or more inches of snow have fallen until snowfall stops and the entire width of the road has been plowed. The Westfield Police Department will issue tickets for violations of this ordinance.

Residents are asked to stay off the roads during the storm for all non-essential travel, which allows our plowing crews to operate more efficiently during anticipated hazardous conditions.

𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆
Downtown residents without driveways may park in Lot 4 behind Baron's. Residents in other areas without driveways or the ability to park off-street may park in the Memorial Pool lot, on the tennis court side.

In addition, the following locations are subject to alternate side of the street parking after three inches of snow have fallen, and vehicles need to park on the side of the street with even house numbers (except for Ross Place).

🔹Cacciola Place
🔹Cowperthwaite Place between Elm and Clark Streets

WESTFIELD HIGH SCHOOL LOCKED DOWN, SEARCHED FOLLOWING DISCOVERY OF POSSIBLE SECURITY THREAT

WESTFIELD – FEBRUARY 10, 2026 – Westfield High School located at 550 Dorian Road was placed on a lockdown this morning by school officials and searched by police following the discovery of a possible threat to its security.

Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro stated the threat, which indicated the presence of a firearm, was reported to the School Resource Officer assigned to Westfield High School by a school official at approximately 11:31 AM.

A subsequent lockdown was ordered, and a methodical search of the entire school by police was immediately initiated. No firearm or any other threat was located, and the lockdown was lifted and students were dismissed at approximately 2:49 PM – the end of the normal school day.

Chief Battiloro stated Westfield High School is an expansive building and to thoroughly search it in its entirety was a time-consuming process. All rooms were individually searched by teams of police officers and detectives, and larger common areas of the building – to include the cafeterias and gymnasiums – were additionally searched a second time by canines from the Union County Sheriff's K-9 Unit.

During the lockdown, four students with pre-existing medical concerns were assessed by the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad, but none required any further medical attention or transport.

“We take the safety and security of our schools extremely serious, and any and all security threats will always be thoroughly and completely investigated,” stated Chief Battiloro.

Sixteen Westfield police officers and detectives responded and were assisted by officers from the Garwood Police Department and Fanwood Police Department, as well as detectives from the Union County Prosecutor's Office. Scene operations were supported by the Town of Westfield, NJ Fire Department.

The source of the threat remains under active investigation by detectives from Westfield Police Department’s Juvenile Bureau. Anyone with information related to it is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Dennis DaSilva by telephone at 908-789-6085 or by e-mail at [email protected].

Very grateful for our hardworking DPW crews who worked around the clock to clear our streets! Many thanks to our first responders as well - Town of Westfield, NJ Police Department, Town of Westfield, NJ Fire Department, Rescue Squad. This was a mighty storm that took all hands on deck - friends and kids and neighbors too!

Thank you to the Department of Public Works for their hard work to plow all town roads with multiple passes throughout this storm. The DPW will be back out early Tuesday morning to salt main roadways, known problem areas, and the roads surrounding the schools to help minimize icing.

As a reminder, all sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours after snowfall has ended, and shoveling/blowing snow into a plowed street is banned. Thanks to the many residents and business owners who have already cleared their sidewalks.
