Riecken Community Libraries provide access to information in remote, rural and marginalized communities of Guatemala and Honduras.

Each library - open and free to all - provides books, computers, training, and dynamic programs focused on literacy skills. To change the world, you must be able to envision the future. Riecken libraries promote literacy for all ages, a love of reading and the understanding of new technologies. But they do much more: They open the doors to innovation and imagination. That, in turn, has sparked new and unexpected opportunities in Riecken communities. Currently there are over 60 libraries in Guatemala and Honduras.

We don’t always open a book to learn something new. Sometimes, we simply want to enjoy a good story. 📖✨

Reading for pleasure allows us to choose what we want to read, discover new characters, imagine different worlds, laugh, feel, or simply enjoy a moment for ourselves. That is why community libraries are also spaces where everyone can connect with books simply for the joy of reading.

Because when reading becomes something we genuinely enjoy, books can stay with us far beyond their pages.

When a community comes together, ideas multiply, and each person’s contribution becomes part of a collective strength. 🤝

Community libraries bring together children, young people, adults, and families to share, connect, learn, create, and work together. They are meeting places where different voices can come together and where participation and collaboration can lead to new ideas and opportunities for the community.

Because when we come together and work as one, we can go much further.

Promoting reading is something anyone can do. 📚

A member of the Community Board, a volunteer, a librarian, or anyone from the community can become a reading promoter by sharing a book, recommending a story, reading with children, or simply sparking curiosity about new stories.

Their role matters because bringing someone closer to reading does not always require big activities; sometimes it starts with a conversation, a recommendation, or the excitement of sharing a book.

Women play an important role in keeping alive the stories, knowledge, and traditions that shape our identity. 🌿

Through their experiences, voices, and knowledge, many women pass on customs, stories, practices, and cultural expressions to new generations, allowing them to remain part of community life.

Libraries can also be spaces to recognize, share, and celebrate this knowledge, connecting our memories and culture with new generations.

Who says a library has to be a quiet place?

In our community libraries, laughter, play, movement, and creativity are also part of the experience. They are lively spaces where children can read, play, create, talk, and, above all, have fun.

Play and leisure are essential to childhood development. That is why our libraries create opportunities for children to explore, imagine, express themselves, and connect with others through play.

Because a library can also be a place where children feel free to be themselves, create, and enjoy.

Every training is an opportunity to grow, share experiences, and discover new ways to bring a library to life. 🌱

When the people who serve their communities have opportunities to learn and strengthen their skills, they also expand the possibilities for creating better experiences and opportunities for everyone who visits the library.

Every story opens a door to imagination. During Story Hour, children and families come together to listen, discover characters, share ideas, and let their creativity take flight.

Because when a story is shared, it also creates moments that strengthen connections and make the library a place where everyone can come together and enjoy the magic of stories.

Different corners of the world, same beautiful mission.

When the late, legendary Dolly Parton started the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she did it out of pure love and a simple belief: that every single child deserves access to books and the chance to dream big. She knew that putting a book into a child's hands could ignite a lifelong love of reading.

In Honduras and Guatemala, Riecken Community Libraries share that same vision establishing vibrant, democratic community centers packed with books and learning opportunities. By breaking down barriers to literacy and creating spaces where the love of reading can thrive when someone walks through the doors of a Riecken library, minds are expanded, futures are brightened, and communities are strengthened.

Dolly once said, "If you can read, it gives you wings to fly anywhere you want to go."

With your support, Riecken Community Libraries can continue to give people of all ages wings on which to soar.

Behind an active library are people preparing to bring every space to life ✨

Training new librarians strengthens their knowledge and provides tools to support their communities, promote access to information, and create experiences that invite people to participate and discover.

Trust is built through actions, and transparency is one of the most important 🌱

When a library openly shares its work and manages its resources responsibly, it strengthens community participation and creates the foundation for continued growth and impact. 🤝
