📣 Mercer County Proud! 🥎

Yesterday, Superintendent Edward Toman and Assistant Superintendent Rosemary Mitchell traveled to South Charleston to cheer on the PikeView High School softball team as they competed in the 2026 WVSSAC State Softball Tournament at Little Creek Park.

The Panthers have battled their way to the state tournament and are among the top teams in West Virginia, earning their place on the state's biggest stage. Today, they take the field again as they continue their pursuit of a state championship. They will face the winner of the John Marshall v. Keyser game happening now. If the Panthers win that game, they will play again this evening at approximately 8:00 p.m.

We are incredibly proud of these student-athletes, coaches, and families for representing Mercer County with determination, sportsmanship, and Panther pride. Join us in wishing PikeView the very best this afternoon!

Today marked a special milestone as Melissa Boothe completed her final end-of-year evaluation with Dr. Ernie Adkins before retirement.

While we will miss seeing her each day, we are excited for this next chapter and all the adventures that await her. Retirement may mark the end of a remarkable career, but it is also the beginning of new opportunities, new memories, and well-deserved time to enjoy the things she loves most.

🏈 **Glenville State Football Camp at Hunnicutt Stadium** 🏈

Mercer County Public Schools Superintendent Ed Toman had the opportunity to reconnect with two respected leaders of the Glenville State University Football program, Head Coach Jake Casteel and Assistant Head Coach Brian Hill, during the Glenville State Football Camp at Hunnicutt Stadium on Monday, June 1, 2026.

The event was especially meaningful for Superintendent Toman, who was a teammate of Coach Hill during their days as members of the Glenville State Pioneer football program. Toman also shares a special connection with the Casteel family, having played alongside Coach Jake Casteel’s father, Jeff Casteel (former WVU defensive assistant), at Paden City High School.

The camp served as a great reminder of the lasting relationships, traditions, and values built through athletics while providing local student-athletes the opportunity to learn from outstanding coaches with deep West Virginia football roots.

Thank you to Glenville State Football for investing in our young athletes and helping inspire the next generation both on and off the field! 💙💛🏈
