Hey everyone, it’s that weekend again. Make sure you get out to Rotary Park this Saturday June 6th, for Shrimpfest and enjoy some of the food that I don’t normally get to eat! Also if you’re around for the Princeton Mile at 10 am, you might see me directing traffic! Balto out.

Today Balto and I were honored in receiving the 2026 Illinois Juvenile Officers Association Initiative of the Year Award. I would like to take just a brief minute to give credit and thanks where it’s due.

First to my command staff. Thank you for your continued support in all of my endeavors. To have the opportunity to have this program is way more than some other officers get, and I can’t thank you enough for your willingness and trust.

To my family. Your unwavering support especially when dealing with the not so fun parts makes everything easier. Your helpfulness eases my burden, especially while juggling a tough job with a teenager dog that doesn’t always listen well. Thank you does not even cover what I wish to express to you.

Officer Brian Zebron. Your guidance and mentorship of me for the last 8 years has helped shape me to be the officer that I am today. It started with a dual purpose K-9 to now when it’s a therapy dog primarily in a school setting, and everything in between. I would not be half the officer I am if it weren’t for you. The opportunities that you have provided as well as the knowledge that you have imparted to me can never be repaid nor will it ever be forgotten.

Lastly to Balto. Calling you a good dog pales in comparison to how awesome you truly are. You learn with such ease that it makes me look like a veteran trainer and you act like a dog well beyond your years. You truly are one of a kind and I can’t wait to see how you grow to be an irreplaceable fixture of the community. I would not have received this award without you, not you without me and thank you does not mean anything to you, so here’s to extra belly scratches and more time playing with your ball.

Today marks the last day of student attendance and my last day of school for this year. My friends at school are so happy to be out for the summer and get to enjoy all the summer activities, but I’m sad because I will miss my friends! I can’t wait for August to hear all about summer vacations and sports achievements. I hope everyone has a great summer, I get to meet new friends, and see plenty of my friends while I’m on patrol.

I’m excited to see how much they’ve grown over the summer, especially how much they’ve grown compared to me!!! With only being 11 months old I still have some growing to do, so make sure you check back in August and see the comparison between me and my bestie LP!!

Balto Fun Fact Friday!

The Kuvasz is not only a Hungarian livestock guardian, but was once also royalty. Matthias Corvinus, the king of Hungary, was said to have many Kuvasok in his royal kennels. This led to this majestic breed be his trusted Royal Guard. According to Hungarian folklore, King Corvinus gifted 2 Kuvasz dogs to Vlad Dracula, aka Vlad the Impaler.

Balto here and I’m going to be “cat”ty for a minute. Since I haven’t been invited to all the field trips that have been happening lately, I decided to have an extra recess all by myself! The best thing about recess alone is that I don’t have to worry about anyone taking their ball and going home! On a more serious note, I hope that all the students have been having a great time on their field trips, and I’m only slightly jealous I can’t go. Balto out.

Balto here with a Public Service Announcement.

With the warmer temperatures in the near future make sure to not be leaving your 4 legged friends in your vehicles. On a 70 degree day the temperature inside a vehicle can reach up to 104 degrees within 30 minutes. Us animals don’t sweat like people do and panting isn’t always sufficient to cool us down. Even cracking windows doesn’t help.

Luckily I have a sweet set up with constant air conditioning, 2 fans, and a heat monitoring system for when my dad has to handle calls. Please keep your furry friends safe!!! Balto out.
