Attention: The Somerset County Health Department (SCHD) has suspended wet season land evaluations for this year. Land evaluations are part of a property review that determines if the property is suitable for on-site sewage disposal. Wet season is determined by observing the groundwater levels within a network of monitoring wells in the county. These groundwater levels have declined beyond the allowable levels for wet season. The evaluation time frame was limited due to excessively dry conditions.

All previously submitted land evaluation applications will be reviewed to determine if they are candidates for continued testing out of wet season. This determination is based on the types of soils present and the management area the property is located in. Properties that are eligible may have to provide a backhoe to assist with testing. Ineligible properties will be notified by letter that their application will be held over at no cost until next wet season. Wet season typically starts during the month of January. Property owners can continue to submit applications during the rest of the year, but the application may be held until next wet season.

For more information, please contact the Environmental Health Division at 443-523-1700.
