We really appreciate the support of Calvert Marine Museum for taking care of our snapper for three years. It's nice to have it back in the newly renovated exhibits.

While hiking the boardwalk trail, look for the Chronolog station on the hillside portion of the trail.

This week's Natural Resources Spotlight shines the light on Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Nature Center!

As many of you may know, the Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Nature Center suffered a devastating blow in November of 2022 when an electrical fire ignited and quickly destroyed the contents of our basement storage room. Thanks to the swift response from volunteer fire departments, the fire was contained to the basement storage room; however, other basement areas were severely damaged by water and smoke. Initially, the damage appeared to be confined to the basement areas, but upon professional inspection it was determined that the upstairs offices, classrooms and exhibit room also sustained extensive smoke damage.

As a result of the considerable damage, the Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Nature Center remains closed, and the process of making necessary repairs is currently underway. The park and trails remain open during construction, and we sincerely appreciate your continued patience as we work to fully recover.

Apart from the raptors 🦉 that are housed in enclosures behind the Nature Center, the remaining ambassador animals have been relocated to safe, suitable locations where they are being cared for. We eagerly await their return and the re-opening of our beloved Nature Center 💗. Once again, we thank you all for the overwhelming show of support and compassion. In the meantime, we hope you will stop by to visit and enjoy the trails 🎒👟🚶!

For those who may wish to help, Calvert Nature Society is accepting donations to help replace equipment, materials and supplies used for our public educational programs at www.calvertparks.org/donate.html.

Use 2880 Grays Road for accurate directions.

It’s not always a good idea to rely on Google and other mapping apps to find the best route to Carter Caves. Many mapping apps will have you taking roads in our area that may say are quicker but are single lane roads that turn into gravel and may even end up in a creek. Major numbered state routes and interstates will bring you to the park from every direction. Please pay attention and as always feel free to contact the park for assistance.
