🚨 Please join us in congratulating Trooper Williams, of the Prince Frederick Barrack, on his successful completion of the Southern Maryland Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training!

During the intensive, hands-on training, troopers, deputies, correctional officers, and emergency communications 911 dispatchers learn how to assist persons experiencing a mental health crisis with an efficient, respectful and compassionate approach.

Additionally, the training provides attendees with a better understanding of the population they serve and the needs of those who have mental illnesses, intellectual/developmental disabilities or substance use disorders.

Congratulations to Tpr. Williams and all other participants!

🚨 Meet MSP’s Southern Maryland Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Newest Instructors 🚨

Let’s start off by saying, having this team of Maryland State Troopers that take part in Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) is a testament to the Maryland State Police’s commitment to excellence in policing and community care. It ensures that our Troopers are not just guardians of the law, but also skilled architects of peace, capable of weaving a fabric of trust and safety throughout our communities. We collaborate with the St. Mary’s CSO, Calvert CSO and Charles CSO and the Charles County Health Department to bring the training to Troopers, Deputies, Animal Control Officers and EMS/Paramedics across southern Maryland. All of these instructors have volunteered to become certified CIT Instructors which signifies a profound dedication to service and empathy. Their willingness to guide and educate their peers in managing crises is a beacon of hope, demonstrating a shared vision of a future where every interaction between law enforcement and the community is rooted in understanding and compassion. Two Maryland State Troopers are being recognized for their swift and heroic actions that saved the life of an infant in Southern Maryland this past weekend.

While handling an unrelated call in Lusby on Saturday, Trooper First Class Taylor Hersh and Corporal Jonathan Stoltzfus were urgently approached by a mother whose child was choking. Without hesitation, both troopers sprang into action, using their training and composure under pressure to quickly clear the infant’s airway.

Thanks to their decisive response and lifesaving skills, a potentially tragic situation was prevented, and a young life was saved.

Outstanding work, TFC Hersh and Cpl. Stoltzfus. Your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting our community truly exemplify the highest standards of the Maryland State Police. 👏
