Another busy weekend for Mobile Bay DSA 🌹

Even though we had to cancel our Saturday Brake Light Clinic, several of our members joined Blue Umbrella: Progressives of Mobile to listen to listen to Clyde Jones speak about the affordability crisis, Alabama’s rural healthcare crisis, the state of American democracy, and how he plans to represent this district in the House of Representatives come November.

On Monday, some of our members and our two Co-Chairs joined the local Teamsters chapter to celebrate Labor Day by helping them throw toilet paper and beads in the parade Downtown, an annual tradition 🎉. Remember, your boss didn’t give you that day off or that holiday pay, unions did!

Mobile Bay Democratic Socialists of America strongly condemns the homophobic banners placed by Travis Johnson in Downtown Mobile. They are a feeble attempt at political grandstanding and to prove that he has power over the city government. Travis Johnson might be able to bully the city, but the people of Mobile will not be silent.

Mobile’s LGBTQ+ community has a long history of resilience in the face of threats. Today, they have a city, a community, that stands in solidarity with them. As socialists, we stand with all oppressed peoples and participate in their struggles for liberation. Just as we will not allow our Latino and Hispanic community members to be victimized by MAGA ideology, we will also not allow that same ideology to victimize our LGBTQ+ neighbors.

We urge the city to take down this hateful display, which in no way advocates for child safety. Additionally, Travis Johnson should be removed from the board of Visit Mobile, as he is an inaccurate representation of the majority of good, decent Mobilians.

Busy weekend in Baldwin County for Mobile Bay DSA!
Saturday night we had a fantastic potluck with good food and good people. Thank you to everyone who came out!
Our steering committee also attended a community meeting hosted by ACIJ to learn more about how ICE is impacting our community and what our members can do to help those in need. A few of our members also helped facilitate the event! 🌹
