The Forest Service manages a system of 155 national forests, 20 national grasslands, and 222 research and experimental forests, as well as other special areas, covering more than 192 million acres of public land. The Forest Service has evolved into a 30,000 employee agency that manages the national forests for a number of multiple uses, including recreation, timber, wilderness, minerals, water, grazing, fish, and wildlife.

Celebrate National Trails Day with us during our volunteer projects this Saturday, June 6, 2026! Choose from two opportunities, no registration required, show up ready for a great day outdoors:

🚵Littles Creek Bike Trail Project
Help fill gabion baskets for a new bridge, then ride and assist with trail maintenance. Pedal bikes encouraged but not required, bring gloves and drinking water/snacks. Meet at Reeder ATV/Little’s Creek Bike Trail parking lot at 9 am on June 6th.

📍Ferron Canyon Clean‑Up
Bring your UTV/ATV and help collect trash along FS roads and UTV/ATV trails. Bags and gloves provided, volunteers bring water/snacks. Meet at the Ferron/Price Ranger District Yard at 110 S State Street Ferron, UT 84523 at 9 AM on June 6th.

Today, the U.S. Forest Service announced an additional 2026 recreation fee-free day on June 6 in celebration of , providing no cost use of all standard amenity recreation sites on national forests and grasslands.

"For National Trails Day in 2025, Forest Service trail managers, partners, and volunteers hosted 80 events, including 54 stewardship projects, engaging with more than 3,100 volunteers who maintained 173 miles of trail,” said Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz. “We hope those who love Forest Service trails will join us at the trailhead on June 6, whether it’s volunteering to build new trails, pick up trash near a trailhead, participating in a nature walk, or taking advantage of the fee-free day benefits.”

Spring City Canyon Road in Sanpete County, Utah will be closed for public safety during construction and road improvements now through July 2, 2026.

The closure will be in effect weekly, Monday through Thursday, from 1200 on April 20, 2026, through 1700 on July 2, 2026, unless rescinded.

The following roads will be closed during this period:
📍Forest Road 0036 (Spring City Canyon Road) from the Forest Boundary to its junction with Forest Road 0150 (Skyline Drive)
📍 Forest Road 1080 – entire length
📍 Forest Road 1218 – entire length
📍 Forest Road 0270 – entire length
📍 Forest Road 1168 – entire length

Access Update: Joes Valley Campground will be closed through June 10, 2026, for significant upgrades and renovations.

⛺ Once the project is complete, you’ll enjoy upgraded single and family camping units with expanded picnic tables, improved fire rings, and widened camp spurs. Additional improvements include asphalt chip sealing on the roadway and the fisherman’s parking lot, new water hydrants, updated signage, a refreshed kiosk, retaining walls, and upgraded gravel walkways.
