As another school year comes to a close, I want to begin by extending a massive congratulations to the Carbon High School Senior Class of 2026. Reaching this milestone is a major accomplishment, and our entire community is proud of your hard work, dedication, and resilience. Whether your next steps take you into higher education, the workforce, the military, or other new adventures, we wish you the very best. Celebrate this achievement safely and look out for one another as you step into your bright futures.
With the arrival of summer and school letting out, our daily routines shift. This season brings a vital need for increased awareness on our roadways, and I want to urge our community to prioritize safety. Please enjoy your summer, but remain highly aware of your surroundings. Whether you are walking, biking, or playing outside, always look both ways before crossing the street and avoid the dangerous distraction of looking down at your phone near traffic.
A message to the motoring public, please slow down and exercise extreme caution. Summer means more children playing near neighborhoods, parks, and roadways. A split second of driver distraction can change a family's life forever. Let’s keep our eyes on the road and our speeds down.
This reminder is especially critical as we enter the "100 Deadliest Days" on Utah roads—the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Statistically, traffic fatalities spike during these months due to increased travel, higher speeds, and more drivers on the road. I urge every driver in Carbon County to help us break this trend: buckle up every single time, obey the speed limits, and never drive distracted or impaired. Drive carefully especially while traveling through the canyon.
Serving as your Sheriff is an honor that I do not take lightly. I am profoundly grateful for the trust, support, and strong partnership we share with the people of Carbon County. Our deputies are out on the roads every day working to keep this county secure, but our greatest asset in public safety will always be an engaged, careful community.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping us protect what matters most. I wish you all a wonderful, happy, and safe summer season.

Sincerely,
Sheriff Jeff Wood

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Jury Duty Phone Scams 🚨

We have received multiple reports of scammers posing as Carbon County Deputies. They use fear and urgency to steal money from residents. Please read and share this guide to stay safe and protect your neighbors.

⚠️ How the Scam Works:

1. The Threat: The scammer calls and falsely claims you missed Jury Duty, stating a summons to appear in court has been issued.
2. The Demand (Urgency): They demand you pay a fine immediately. This rush is to make you panic.
3. The Payment: They insist you pay with methods like gift cards, prepaid cards, or payment forms. They may even direct you to stores like General Dollar or Walmart.

🛑 The Facts:

1. NO Phone Payments: Real Deputies will never call you to demand payment over the phone.
2. NO Gift Cards: Law enforcement agencies will never ask you to pay a fine using gift cards or wire transfers.
3. Official Process: Official Summons are handled through the mail, not via threatening phone calls.
4. Fake Numbers: Scammers can "spoof" caller ID to make the call look like it's coming from official numbers.

âś… What Should You Do?

1. Hang Up immediately.
2. Verify Independently: Look up the official numbers for the courts, dispatch, or Sheriff’s Office yourself and call it. Never use a number the caller gave you.
3. Report It: Contact our non-emergency line to report the interaction.

Spread the word! Scammers rely on silence and fear. Let’s look out for each other.
