1230 PM Update: The Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) for severe thunderstorms has been expanded to cover more of eastern Kentucky, with a Slight Risk (Level 2/5) added to far northern/northeastern Kentucky. Damaging winds remain the primary threat from any severe storm, with localized heavy rain producing high water also possible. Stay weather aware, and have a reliable way to receive warnings, especially if you plan to be outdoors today.

The countdown is on for the 2026 Ride-4-Rescue ATV / UTV Fundraiser Ride on Saturday, June 27th at Mine Made Adventure Park and Campground!

Whether you’re bringing your ATV, side-by-side, or just coming out to support a great cause, this is shaping up to be an awesome day on the trails. Pre-registration is still open and helps us better prepare for food, ride groups, and event logistics.

A humid airmass is expected ahead of a cold front today, and any storms that develop will likely produce torrential downpours. Isolated instances of flash flooding cannot be ruled out, especially in areas such as SE KY that may experience multiple rounds of storms.

At 622 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong
thunderstorms over Alphoretta, or 9 miles south of Prestonsburg,
moving east at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Estill, Coal Run Village, Martin, Forest
Hills, Wayland, Allen, East McDowell, Huddy, Meta, Hippo, Glo,
Printer, Lancer, Aluba, McDowell, Piso, Betsy Layne, and Dotson.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Buck, or 10 miles northwest of Hindman, moving northeast at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Estill, Wayland, Fredville, Bosco, Mousie, Buck, Hippo, Vail,
Handshoe, Gunlock, Ary, Ordway, Glo, Langley, Bearville, Daisydell,
Pyramid, Orchard, Dotson, and Vest.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop during the day Monday, continuing at times through at least mid-week. Despite antecedent dry conditions, these thunderstorms may produce locally excessive rainfall capable of causing problems for areas prone to high water.
