This second Saturday of September found us shopping, strolling, and restocking here at the Book Garden on Gannon-Little Free Library #134292! 🛍️ 🚶🏻‍♀️ 📚

We visited the Friends of the Dorchester County Public Library’s last Friends of the Library Book Sale until February 2027, (when their Book Cellar will reopen after a renovation project) shopping to stock up on new books for our LFL. While in Cambridge we took the opportunity to get a good walk in, strolling under the shade of some gorgeous old trees, past a pollinator patch full of bees and butterflies, and an unregistered Little Free Library. We came home and did a clean out of most of the books on our shelf, restocking it with books we purchased today and others we have been picking up at different LFLs.

Added a few book to the shelf here at the Book Garden on Gannon-Little Free Library #134292 on this last Saturday of August 2026. We picked up a copy of “Summer’s Never Over” from the Tide and Tome Little Free Library #210406 in Vienna when visiting the town for the Vienna MD Heritage’s Battle of Vienna event today. The title seemed appropriate as we near the end of August and summer, but no matter what we might wish for, summer will come to an end! An added bonus for us was the guided walking tour of historic Water Street which was led by the steward of the Time and Tome Little Free Library! We got to talk houses, history, and of course Little Free Libraries as we enjoyed learning more about this little historic town.

Come find your next read here at the Book Garden on Gannon, located just a stone’s throw from the village of Choptank, another historic waterfront community here on the beautiful Eastern Shore. We are located a few minutes drive from Preston’s Main Street, just off of Blades Road on Gannon Drive. 📚📚📚

P.S. We added something other than a book to the shelf, a candle we bought earlier this week, whose scent we liked in the store, but not when we got it home. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Only one wick was lit, only burned a few minutes, so our loss is your gain! 🕯️

I’m a regular walker at the James T. Wright Memorial Park in Preston, and last night I noticed that there were very few children’s books in Little Free Library #37123. Once I got home I had forgotten all about it.

This afternoon I read about Dolly Parton’s death, which made me immediately think of her Imagination Library, which then made me think of the nearly empty shelf at the LFL last night. I thought about all the books she pushed out into the world (one estimate I saw said over 3 million) and what a generous and forward thinking woman she was. I’m no Dolly, but I do have a reserve shelf of books for my own LFL and I thought what better way to honor her legacy and commitment to literacy than to share some books of my own with this LFL.

If you are a visitor to any LFL please consider passing along some of the books you pick up at LFLs to other LFLs, or returning some of them to the LFL you found them at, to help keep Dolly’s gift of literacy moving forward. 📚🦋📚

Life’s really got a way of getting in the way of the best-laid plans of mice, men (women), and Little Free Library Stewards. It almost got in the way of our shopping at the Friends of the Talbot County Free Library’s book sale at the Talbot County Free Library!

We’ve been so distracted recently that we almost forgot about it (😳) but luckily we remembered the sale before leaving Easton today, so we loaded up with 14 like-new books for both our personal book shelves and the Book Garden on Gannon. Here’s today’s haul, watch for some of these titles to make their way to the Book Garden on Gannon soon. And it’s not too late for you to do your own book shopping-the sale continues tomorrow, Saturday, July 25, from 10 to 3 PM, so go find some of your own favorites!

We won two copies of “Country People” by Daniel Mason, as part of the Good Morning America Book Club Giveaway Contest for Little Free Libraries. This is the July 2026 GMA Book Club Pick and is published by Random House. It was too hot to go too far today, so we visited a few local spots, which included visits to two Little Free Libraries, whose colors just happened to represent the red, white, and blue! 🇺🇸📚🇺🇸

We stopped at LFL #52283, the Mayor Caroline Cline Memorial Little Free Library in East New Market, a red LFL that holds both food and books, and did a book exchange. Our other stop was in Vienna, where we visited The Tide and Tome Little Free Library #210406, a LFL that is both white and blue and is always full of really nice books. We exchanged books there as well, bringing home “The Witch of Blackbird Pond,” a childhood favorite of ours, and “Broken Country,” a book that we recently listened to as an audiobook and gave 5 stars to on our Goodreads account.

Shew! 🥵

It’s a hot one today, and the same goes for tomorrow, and the day after, so our advice is to stay in and read! And thanks to a generous donation by Debbie Feyl Brohawn we have got LOTS of new books to share here at the Book Garden on Gannon-Little Free Library #134292! A few of these are going into our own personal TBR pile first, but there are plenty here to add to our shelf right away, so don’t delay, come by today to snag one of these great reads!

Welcome to July!

The Book Garden on Gannon-Little Free Library #134292 invites you to celebrate the freedom to read whenever you wish! We’ve added books to the shelf to help celebrate the upcoming 4th of July holiday, including a couple of coloring books. Normally when we add coloring books to the shelf we also include crayons, but with the forecasted scorching temperatures heading our way we decided not to in order to avoid a colorful soupy mess inside the LFL! 🇺🇸🥵🇺🇸

Not on the shelf yet, but heading there when we finish reading it, is a brand new, author-signed copy of “The American Revolution and the Fate of the World,” by Richard Bell. We had the pleasure of hearing him speak last month at the Talbot County Free Library in a program put on by the Oxford Museum, the Talbot Historical Society, Talbot 250, the Sons of the American Revolution, and the General Perry Benson Chapter DAR. Having read Dr. Bell’s previous work, “Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped into Slavery and Their Odyssey Home,” which is set, in part, on the Eastern Shore, we have no doubt this will be another five star read for us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
