Community Action in Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties We lead or collaborate to provide services that support, empower, and improve lives. ACAP provides equal opportunity in employment and services.

Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP), a 501c3 non-profit organization, was founded in 1972 and is one of 10 community action programs in Maine and one of approximately 1,100 nationwide. ACAP serves approximately 14,000 low-income people with more than 40 programs and services in four major program areas: early care and education, economic development, energy and housing, and prevention and wellness. Services include Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP); Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP); Low-Income Assistance Program (LIAP); Case Management; Affordable Care Act Navigator Program; Energy, Moisture, and Infiltration Audit Inspections; Housing Rehabilitation Services; workforce development; homeownership education; foreclosure counseling; lead paint inspections; Head Start; Early Head Start; Child Care; Child Care Food Program; Supplemental Food for Women, Infants and Children (WIC); breastfeeding support; and oral

We were excited to deliver 12 sunscreen stations to the Presque Isle Gouldville Early Care and Education Center this week! One sunscreen station will stay at that location, and the Community Action team will distribute the others to their childcare locations across Aroostook County, including Dyer Brook, Houlton, Easton, Presque Isle CTE partnership, Northern Maine Community College, Caribou Community School, Caribou Bowles, Limestone, Fort Kent, and Madawaska.

These sunscreen stations are made possible thanks to a generous grant to AR Gould Hospital from the Maine Cancer Foundation.

Delivering the sunscreen stations was Laura Turner (standing, left), the hospital’s Director of Community Outreach and Philanthropy, and accepting it on behalf of ACAP were several staff and children from the Gouldville center. It was such fun having the kiddos take part!

We’ll continue working on this project throughout the summer. Non-profit organizations who hold outside activities for kids or families can contact Laura Turner at [email protected] to learn more.
