The City of Presque Isle is currently accepting applications for two (2) Firefighter/Paramedic positions.

The City of Presque Isle Fire Department is seeking motivated, career-minded professionals to join an innovative and progressive organization. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals looking to build a rewarding career in fire and emergency services.

The Presque Isle Fire Department serves approximately 75 square miles, with a nighttime population of approximately 9,800 that increases to roughly 20,000 during the daytime.

Position Responsibilities

Firefighter/Paramedics are responsible for providing a broad range of emergency and public safety services, including:

* Emergency medical services and advanced life support through 911 responses
* Fire suppression and emergency response
* Airport firefighting and emergency operations
* Fire prevention activities
* Life safety inspections
* Hazardous materials response and decontamination
* Other duties associated with fire, EMS, and public safety operations

Personnel work a 24-hour shift schedule consisting of 24 hours on duty, 24 hours off duty, 24 hours on duty, followed by 120 hours off duty.

Compensation and Benefits

The City of Presque Isle offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

* 25-year retirement plan providing 2/3 of final compensation with no age requirement

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

* Be at least 18 years of age
* Possess a high school diploma or GED
* Possess a valid driver’s license
* Hold a current Maine EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic license, or be currently enrolled in a Paramedic program with an anticipated completion date within 12 months

Preferred Qualifications

* Firefighter II certification
* College degree from an accredited institution

EMTs and Advanced EMTs will also be considered and must obtain a Maine Paramedic license within 24 months of appointment.

September 11, 2001

25 years ago today, our nation was forever changed.

Four commercial airplanes were hijacked. Two struck the World Trade Center, one struck the Pentagon, and United Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers fought back against the hijackers.

2,977 people were killed.

Among them were 441 first responders from more than 30 agencies.

343 FDNY firefighters
37 Port Authority Police Department officers
23 NYPD officers
38 other first responders

Nearly 1,000 firefighters, approximately 2,000 police officers, and hundreds of EMS personnel responded to the World Trade Center. More than 100 ambulances were sent to the site within the first hour.

Today, we remember the 2,977 victims, the 441 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, their families, and the thousands of responders and survivors whose lives were forever affected by September 11.

We recently welcomed Wyatt Fullen to our career staff. Wyatt has passed his EMT-B exam and is nationally certified at that level. He will begin firefighter training and is enrolled in the paramedic program at NMCC. Wyatt also serves as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves.
