Yavapai County Emergency Management Working to build a disaster-resilient community. 🚨Page is NOT monitored 24/7 🚨 When asked, most do not know, or cannot explain what emergency management is.

The following is a description of the Yavapai County of Emergency Management: Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management principle responsibility is the safety of our citizens and visitors, protection of our infrastructure, as well as the environment. This is accomplished through a proactive, comprehensive, and integrated planning and coordination process to enhance response to an incident. F

urthermore, focus is given to mitigation of hazards, response to incidents, recovery from incidents, and preparedness through planning, training, and exercise development. The goal is to build a disaster resilient community, capable of responding to and recovering from any incident. Much of our work is in the area of mitigation (lessening the effect) of hazards. Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management sponsors and supports grant funded projects for the development of defensible space through wildland fire hazardous fuel mitigation. For more information on this topic see http://www.pawuic.org/ . Several projects are underway to provide public information for our communities, as well as other projects on our agenda. Here is a list of this year’s projects thus far:

•Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) hazardous fuel mitigation.
•Hazardous tree assessment and removal
•County Continuity of Operations Planning (building resiliency in our county operations, thus enhancing service to our citizens)
•Continuity of Government Planning
•Emergency Operations Planning
•Camp Evacuation Planning
•Development of a Special Needs database
•Multi-Year Training and Exercise Planning
•Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) Hazardous materials coordination and planning
•New website integrating warning systems, mapping, and evacuation areas

Your sweet tooth isn’t the only thing that needs attention—don’t forget snacks for your emergency kit!

Hard candy, granola bars, and comfort treats can boost morale during stressful situations. Bonus: they last a while and pack light.

So while you’re indulging today, set a few aside for your go-bag. Sweet preparedness = smart preparedness.

What's your favorite treat?

Today is Cliche Day…

Not a doomsday prepper? Cool—us neither.
But we do believe in planning for the worst and hoping for snacks.
(And power. And cell service. And running water.)

Preparedness isn’t about bunkers and gas masks—it’s about common sense:
🧰 Build a kit
📲 Sign up for alerts
🗺️ Have a plan

Because you don’t need to be extreme to be extremely ready.

Let's be honest, most of us would be lost without our modern conveniences. We could survive without the internet... but we're all a bit rusty with the Morse code.

Jokes aside, things like power, water, and roads are truly essential. That’s why emergency managers team up with public and private partners all year long—to keep that critical infrastructure humming.

It's all about making sure we stay resilient, stay connected, and maybe keep the coffee pot on during the apocalypse.

-Test your smoke alarms at least once a month *
-Change batteries at least once a year *
-Most smoke alarms need to be replaced every 8-10 years. *
-If alarm has built in CO detector, depending on the model, you may need to replace sooner (5-7 years) *
-Make sure everyone in the home understands the sound of the smoke alarm and knows how to respond
*Always maintain/replace smoke alarms according to manufacturer’s instructions

Anyone else doing a scary movie marathon for Halloween?

Horror movies have taught us a lot about preparedness — mostly what not to do. Don't split up, don't ignore weird noises, and for the love of all things holy, don't say "I'll be right back."

Here are some of the lessons we've picked up from classic films. What are your favorite scary movies and lessons learned? Share your thoughts!
