The city of Tempe recently hosted its second annual Tempe
Community Salutes at the Tempe Center for the Arts.
The program is, “a special recognition ceremony honoring
future military service members, from the Tempe area, and their families,”
according to Parris Spisz, council aid for the city of Tempe.
Participants included over 60 future service members from
the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and Arizona National Guard.
Guest speakers included Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell and retired Air Force General
Vern Findley. High school senior future service members received service stoles
to wear at graduation ceremonies to signify their military commitment.
Ceremonial music was provided by the U.S. Coast Guard
Auxiliary Band and the guests were entertained during the reception by the Ft. Huachuca
Military Intelligence Corps Band.
This marks the second year for the Tempe event and is one of
67 community salute events held nationwide honoring over 1,000 future service
members.
