Due to increased bear activity, the Prescott National Forest has temporarily closed Lower Wolf Creek Campground. Visitors should be aware of bear activity throughout the area, including Upper Wolf Creek Campground and Groom Creek Schoolhouse. In recent years, there have also been bear sightings at Lynx Campground, although there have not been any encounters yet this year.
Please be mindful of securing food when not being prepared or monitored. Keep a clean campsite, day and night. Wash dishes ASAP, strain out food particles from dishwater and pack them with your garbage. Do not burn food in campfires, as residue can attract wildlife. Be careful about food residue on any clothes that will be in your tent!
Please also be mindful of strongly-scented items such as gum, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, baby wipes, and other items which may smell like food to a bear. Treat these items as you would food and keep in your vehicle or other wildlife-proof container.
The Forest is currently working to install bearproof trash cans and dumpsters in areas with high bear activity. Please ensure the lids are fully closed and secure. For any trash that exceeds the capacity of the provided bins/dumpsters, we are asking visitors to please pack it out.
For information on other areas to camp, please visit www.recreation.gov.

On June 30, 2013, 19 members of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew made the ultimate sacrifice while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire.

Each year, the Prescott community pauses in remembrance to honor the Brave 19 and reflect on the courage, service, and sacrifice they embodied.

Residents and visitors are invited to take part in commemorative moments of reflection on June 29 and June 30, including a tribute ceremony at the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew Learning and Tribute Center and the ringing of the Yavapai County Courthouse bells 19 times.

The Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial, located on the east side of the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza, stands year-round as a tribute to the 19 firefighters.

PLAN AHEAD FOR NIGHTTIME TRAVEL

SR89 will be closed nightly
June 22–26 | 7 p.m.–5 a.m.
Between the Phippen Trail and Willow Lake Road roundabouts

🚧 Road closure
🚗 Detours posted

To support the design of the Effluent & Wastewater Pipelines & SR89 Improvements Project, the City's consultant will be conducting geotechnical and survey investigations along SR89. This work will help engineers better understand underground utilities and rock conditions before final design begins.

To safely complete the investigation, SR89 will be closed nightly between the Phippen Trail and Willow Lake Road roundabouts from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., June 22–26.

Local traffic will be allowed to access properties from both roundabouts; however, a hard closure will be in place between Boulder Creek Lane and Twisted Trail. Detour routes will be posted.

The work is being conducted overnight to minimize impacts to the traveling public. Please follow posted signage and allow extra travel time if traveling through the area.
