Cody Fire School Training – 2026

The Paradise Valley Fire Department sent 7 Firefighter/EMT members to this year’s Cody Fire School.

Members trained in:

* Advanced Vehicle Extrication and
stabilization
* Incident Command
* Basic Wildland Firefighting

Each course included both classroom instruction and hands-on, field-based training, providing real-world application and certifications that directly strengthen our response capabilities here in Paradise Valley.

Investing in training like this ensures our members are prepared for the wide range of emergencies we face—from highway incidents to wildland fire operations.

We’re proud of our crew for continuing to put in the time and effort to sharpen their skills and better serve our community.

🚒 Driver Safety Training Completed 🚒

Yesterday, members of Paradise Valley Fire Department completed a driver safety course focused on safe emergency vehicle operations across multiple apparatus platforms.

Training included hands-on driving exercises with our ambulance, engines, and water tenders, allowing members to practice vehicle positioning, backing, turning clearance, cone navigation, and operating larger apparatus in tight spaces and real-world response scenarios.

For a rural department covering nearly 30 miles of roadway throughout Paradise Valley, safe apparatus operation is critical. Our responders regularly face narrow roads, changing weather conditions, wildlife hazards, limited lighting, and challenging driving environments while responding to emergencies.

This type of training helps ensure our members can safely operate the equipment our community depends on—while protecting both responders and the public.

A big thank you to Montana State University Fire Services Training School and Southern Regional Trainer Chris Mork for sponsoring and providing this valuable training opportunity.

We appreciate the continued support that helps keep PVFD prepared.

Meet the Paradise Valley Fire Department Command Staff

The Paradise Valley Fire Department is proud to introduce the command staff members who help lead our department with dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to serving our community.

Our command staff is made up of a highly diverse group of individuals, bringing a wide range of experience and leadership backgrounds.

This includes command-level fire service experience, law enforcement leadership, business management, aerospace industry expertise, intelligence community experience, microchip and technology sector backgrounds, construction experience, “surfing,” as well as extensive ER trauma and medical knowledge.

This diversity strengthens our department’s decision-making, enhances operational effectiveness, and helps ensure we are well-prepared to meet the complex challenges of emergency response in a rural environment.

These leaders work diligently behind the scenes and on the front lines to support our firefighters, EMTs, operations, training, equipment, communications, and emergency response efforts throughout Paradise Valley and our mutual aid partners.

Their combined experience and commitment help ensure PVFD remains prepared, responsive, and focused on protecting the people we serve.

On March 26, 2026, at approximately 1215 hours, the PVFD and Park County Rural Fire were dispatched to 263 Capricorn Drive for a reported wildland fire. Dispatch advised the fire had possibly started from a controlled burn that had gotten out of control.

The Park County Sheriff’s Office also responded and arrived on scene first.

🚨Fire Response Notification🚨

On March 12, 2026, at approximately 1418 hours, the Paradise Valley Fire Department was dispatched to the Big Creek Road area, approximately 1/4 mile north of Highway 89, for a reported fire with white smoke visible.

Command 870, Brush 846, Brush 844, Engine 832, and Tender 855 responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, units found that high winds had rekindled a three-week-old slash pile, igniting low vegetation and pasture grass and causing the fire to spread north.

Firefighters quickly worked to contain the fire and prevent further spread in the windy conditions.

At the time, Park County was experiencing multiple wind-related incidents throughout the county, including several fires, downed power lines, and vehicles blown over due to strong winds.

Paradise Valley Fire Department History:

The Paradise Valley Fire Department was formed in 1993. In the early days, the original ambulance was stationed in Emigrant and kept outside. Much of the department’s equipment, including personal protective gear, was second-, third-, fourth-, and even fifth-hand. But what PVFD lacked in resources, it more than made up for in heart, grit, and determination.

Over the years, many dedicated men and women have given countless hours of their time, energy, and commitment to build PVFD into what it is today. Their hard work, sacrifice, and pride in serving this community have laid the foundation we stand on today.

A sincere shout-out and thank you to all past and present members — your dedication continues to make a difference in Paradise Valley.

Attached are a few old photos of fire crews, incidents, and newspaper articles that help tell the story of PVFD’s early days.

As we look to the future, PVFD remains committed to strengthening our training, upgrading our equipment, and continuing to serve this valley with professionalism and pride. While the tools and technology may continue to evolve, the core values of service, dedication, and community will always remain the same.

We are proud of where we started — and even more determined about where we’re headed.

On February 18, 2026, at approximately 1854 hours, the Paradise Valley Fire Department was paged to assist Park County Rural Fire with a mutual aid response to a reported structure fire at 4282 U.S. Highway 89.

Command 870, Engine 831, Tender 854, and Ambulance 861 responded to the scene to provide fire suppression and medical support alongside our mutual aid partners.

We were saddened to learn that the family lost their pets in the fire. Losing a pet is incredibly difficult - they are family, loyal companions, and a part of everyday life.

Our hearts go out to the family during this heartbreaking time.
