Tonight’s training focused on dump tank operations — an important skill that helps firefighters move large amounts of water quickly in areas without nearby fire hydrants. By practicing tanker shuttles, drafting, hose connections, and water transfer techniques, our department is better prepared to provide a steady water supply during rural fires and emergency situations.

Training like this helps protect homes, property, farmland, and lives in our community by making sure every firefighter knows their role and can work together efficiently when seconds matter. Proud of everyone who came out tonight to learn, train, and serve.

This morning, Independence Fire Department was dispatched to County Road 38 to assist with a patient who had fallen at a construction site.

Our crew responded to help provide patient care, assist EMS, and establish a safe landing zone for LifeFlight. Once the helicopter arrived, firefighters assisted with loading and preparing the patient for transport.

Calls like this are a reminder that volunteer departments do much more than fight fires. From medical calls and rescues to traffic control and landing zones, our members are here whenever the community needs help.

We are thankful for the teamwork between our firefighters, EMS, and flight crew that helps make these situations run as safely and smoothly as possible.

If you’ve ever considered serving your community, we are always looking for dedicated volunteers to join our department.
