We've had lots of great questions about our temporary closure and repairs, so here's some answers! 🥰
1. Our building has had some MAJOR foundation issues for a while (have you seen the cracks??). So our partner, the USFWS, is funding the repairs!
2. We expect the foundation repairs and remodel to finish Fall 2027 🤞
3. Chisholm Creek Park will still be open from dawn to dusk. You'll see our naturalists out there doing programs, clubs, and a couple events this year!
4. After foundations repairs are finished, we expect to re-open, but will still need to install the new exhibits. We could be closed an additional time for that. Exhibit designs are currently in the concept phase.

Just two more days (today & tomorrow) to visit us! Got any other questions you want answered? Comment them below! 🦝

🎣 Fishing Basics #1: What Do You Need to Start Fishing?

Getting started is simpler than most people think.

For your first fishing trip, bring:
✔ A basic rod and reel combo
✔ Fishing line
✔ A few hooks
✔ Bobbers
✔ Live bait such as worms
✔ A valid fishing license (if required)

If you're fishing with kids or are brand new to the sport, try fishing from a shoreline, dock, or fishing pier. A bobber, hook, worm, and a little patience can catch a surprising variety of fish.

Pro Tip: Look for areas where fish naturally gather, such as docks, fallen trees, rocky shorelines, or aquatic vegetation.

🐢 Slow down. Someone's crossing.

Late spring and early summer are some of the busiest times of year for turtles in Kansas. As they move between nesting and feeding areas, many find themselves crossing roads.

If you see a turtle crossing:
✔ Slow down when it's safe to do so
✔ Help it across in the direction it's already traveling
✔ Never relocate it to a new area

That turtle may have spent years—or even decades—surviving in the wild. A little patience can help ensure it continues its journey.

Have you spotted any turtles on the move lately?
