Books for Boots

Books for Boots She was transferred from active training to Romeo Company, Parris Islands’ medical rehabilitation unit for injured recruits.

Books for Boots is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides books, movies, cd's, puzzles, approved craft items, and more to all members of the military - including injured recruits, veterans, and military children - for free, always. Books to Boots came to life after my oldest daughter, Mackayla, found herself injured with stress fractures after about four weeks of basic training in the Marines in Spri

ng of 2023. What I realized through my daughter’s experience is that when these injured recruits are placed in Romeo, they have approximately two weeks before they will receive any comfort items (books, craft items, etc) from family members. It takes about that long for families to receive their recruits’ new address and to be able to gather items and ship via USPS to the address given. And that’s if the family is even able to send items. Some can’t because they just can’t afford to do so. I was informed that the community library for injured recruits was very low on books. This really bothered me and I wanted to help change this and support these medical rehab units. I reached out through various channels at Parris Island and got approval for sending books. I also came to realize that recruits could use movies and music CD’s. These are obviously at the discretion of the drill instructors and commanding officers and are often used as good behavior incentives. Some recruits prefer to do small crafts during their increased daily down time, and I thought that Books for Boots could help in that area as well. Another insight I gained was that the need for books, movies, music, and craft items isn’t limited to the Marines, but other branches as well. I have contacted and received confirmation from some that items will be most welcome and appreciated. As items are gathered and processed, more basic training installations will be added to the roster to receive shipments. It is my sincere goal to help provide and ship out at least; 500 books, 150 movies, 75 music CD’s, and numerous crafts to each base. After each location has received this amount, the goal is to provide another increment in each and / or maintenance shipments every month to keep inventory of all items at a desired level. All items are stored in a community library of sorts for each medical rehab unit but will still diminish over time. All items come from individuals in the local community through local book and media drives and other events. Items are cleaned, inventoried, and shipped accordingly. I won’t be able to accomplish this alone. It will take more funds than I can personally provide to cover the costs of shipping for these set goals. If you find that your company would be willing to sponsor our organization, you can find more information on our website (https://booksforboots.org) or feel free to reach out to me anytime at [email protected].

🇺🇸❤️ PLEASE HELP US SUPPORT OUR FRIENDS AT BR SOLDIER OUTREACH!!

Our friends at BR Soldier Outreach are gearing up for their 2nd Annual Operation Reload 4 Heroes Sporting Clay Tournament — their biggest fundraiser of the year!

BR Soldier Outreach does incredible work supporting our deployed service members by sending care packages filled with a little piece of home. We have been fortunate to work alongside this wonderful organization, and they have also been incredible supporters of Books for Boots. Now, we would love to help spread the word and support THEIR mission!

🎯 Operation Reload 4 Heroes
📅 Friday, October 9, 2026
📍 Bridge View Gun Club — Port Allen, LA
⏰ Registration begins at 8:00 AM
🏆 Sporting clay tournament, awards, breakfast, lunch, silent auction, raffles & more!

Four-person teams are $600, or individual shooters can register for $150. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses and individuals who would like to support the event.

Every registration and sponsorship helps BR Soldier Outreach continue sending comfort from home to our men and women serving away from their families.

One of the things we love most about our military nonprofit community is that we may serve in different ways, but at the end of the day, we're all working toward the same goal: supporting the men and women who serve our country. 🇺🇸

Please help us support our friends by sharing their event!

🥋🇺🇸❤️ One of our favorite parts of the day - and apparently a crowd favorite too!

Hero's Way Martial Arts joined the Red, White, & Boots Festival just THREE DAYS before the event — and we are so glad they did!

Their indoor demonstration came together a little on the fly, but you certainly wouldn't have known it watching their students perform. We absolutely loved seeing them showcase not only their martial arts skills, but the confidence, discipline, and respect that Hero's Way works to instill in each of their students.

They were such a fun addition to our very first festival, and their demonstration was definitely a highlight of the day!

A huge THANK YOU to Hero's Way Martial Arts for jumping in at the last minute, going with the flow, and putting on such a great demonstration for our community. We absolutely loved having you! 🥋❤️🇺🇸

Our Red, White, & Boots Festival opened with a petting zoo from Shnoa Clements with Clements Family Farm, LLC!!

While we had planned for pony rides, their larger horse has stomach ulcers and it needed to rest and recover. I think we can all relate to needing a sick day for being sick! We completely understood and know that despite that absence, the petting zoo was a hit!

They brought a variety of farm animals, including two milk cows! We highly recommend Shnoa and her crew for any event.

Have petting zoo photos? Add them to this post!

🇺🇸📣Another exciting expansion for Books for Boots!

Last month, we began a new partnership with the USO Louisiana - Mississippi by providing books, games, puzzles and other items to their USO Fort Polk location.

Today, we are so excited to share that we have expanded that partnership to also support the USO at Camp Shelby & MEPS in New Orleans!

For this expansion, we were able to provide:

📚 498 adult books
📚 80 children's books
🧩 19 puzzles
🎲 9 games

That's 600+ items (15+ boxes) that will now be available to service members and military families through these locations!

That means even more service members will have access to books and recreational items donated by our incredible community - completely free of charge. And this isn't a one-time delivery! Books for Boots will continue working with the USO to regularly restock these locations and keep items available for the service members and families who pass through them.

To us, these are so much more than "just items." Every book, puzzle and game is a small reminder to the person who picks it up that they are seen, appreciated and cared about.

We also owe a very special thank you to Jenna Brown, an Army veteran who served for 11 years. Jenna worked alongside us to pull and prepare books for this collection and then helped us deliver everything to our meeting spot with the USO. We are incredibly grateful for the time and work she continues to give to help us support her fellow service members. 🇺🇸

And this expansion has an extra special meaning for our family.

MEPS New Orleans is where our daughter, Mackayla, shipped out from when she left for Marine Corps recruit training in January 2023. We had absolutely no idea that her journey would soon inspire the beginning of Books for Boots.

Now, more than three years later, items donated to the organization that exists because of her will be available to service members walking through that very same place.

Talk about a full-circle moment. ❤️

Books for Boots started because of one Marine recruit who needed books during a difficult chapter of her own journey. Because of her, and because of a community that continues to believe in this mission, we now have the opportunity to reach service members in more and more places.

All because of her. And all made possible because of YOU. 🇺🇸
