Domestic Violence – A Different Perspective

Since October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the September meeting will focus on that issue and how we can help save lives. We will hear from Jackson Katz, a well-known and respected domestic violence prevention advocate who started the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program. GGS members and guests will view his TED talk: Violence Against Women — It's a Men's Issue that presents a different understanding of domestic violence. We also expect a speaker from a local domestic violence shelter. Reminder - all monthly GGS programs are free and open to the public. Guests are welcome.

The Advocacy Action will be collecting non-perishable food and new toys and books for children ages 1 through 17 in shelters.

Dear Members,

Let’s Celebrate Together!

For more than 130 years, women in Kansas City have come together through the National Council of Jewish Women of Greater Kansas City to make a difference in the lives of women, children, and families. Through volunteer service, advocacy, education, philanthropy, and friendship, generations of members have created a remarkable legacy of impact.

Today, we are excited to announce the beginning of our next chapter.

After more than two years of thoughtful consideration, our organization has voted to become an independent local nonprofit organization. And with that change comes a new name that captures the heart of who we are and where we are headed:

Jewish Women Together (formerly NCJWOFKC)

Together, we honor the legacy of NCJW and the women who built it.
Together, we live the Jewish value of tikkun olam—repairing the world through action.
Together, we create meaningful connections and lifelong friendships.
Together, we support and strengthen our Kansas City community.
Together, we inspire the next generation of Jewish women leaders.

Our name may be changing, but the spirit, relationships, values, and commitment that have defined us for more than 130 years remain strong.
Most importantly, we are still us. We are women coming together to put Jewish values into action, strengthen our community, learn from one another, build friendships, and create meaningful change.

We invite you to celebrate this new beginning with us—and, just as importantly, to help shape what comes next.

This is our next chapter. And we are writing it together.

JWT Board of Directors

09/01/2026

After two years of careful consideration, our Board of Directors has voted to become an independent local non-profit. This decision follows structural changes at the National Council of Jewish Women, Inc. including an advocacy-only focus, and restrictions on local control over programming, operations, and staffing. Independence ensures we can safeguard the work our members value most, while expanding our impact and engagement right here in Kansas City. We are proud to introduce our new name: Jewish Women Together (JWT): Where Values Inspire Action

Tuesday, September 1 at 7:00 pm, mark your calendars to attend an important, in-person meeting in the Social Hall at The J. During this meeting, we will vote on disassociating from NCJW and adopting new bylaws.
