Local 5468 wants to help the public become more informed for the midterms this November. Please take the time to read the official statement on our position.
We have chosen this direction because we do not believe active involvement in elections will do our members or the citizens good. We believe the most good we can do is to inform. For example, did you know that Waller-Harris ESD 200 has experienced a 56% increase in call volume in 2026 as of February 2nd compared to 2025 in the same time? ESD 200 was assigned to 1047 calls for service with the Fire Department being dispatched to 788 of them. In 2025, the Fire Department was dispatched to only 445 calls in the same time. Why are there calls that the fire department does not respond to? Some of those calls for service were from alarm companies that our dispatch, Westcom, is able to make contact with the property owner and clear the alarm out before dispatching a fire truck. Some of them were also minor EMS calls that an Ambulance was able to handle on their own without additional assistance from the Fire Department.
This jump in call volume is not by chance. It is due to the extreme growth we are experiencing around us. This growth has the ability to stretch County public services thin and we want to make sure that when you call 911, you will get the service that you paid for. We want to help you know who is running for office who also sees this problem and what they plan to do to make sure that our services continue to run and improve.
