Busy day dealing with a large brush fire on the western end of Powhatan yesterday. In all, crews work 7+ hours to contain just over 35 acres that burned.
We cannot thank all the mutual aid crews enough for your assistance. It was awesome to see all the outside help that came from Cumberland, Amelia, Department of Forestry, Powhatan Sheriff’s Department and then flying Squad.
Shout out to the Powhatan Sheriff’s Department drone team. This was such a valuable asset on this incident. The command post was a long way from the actual fire. The eye in the sky helped the command staff with seeing how big the fire was, where the wind was pushing it, watching for spots fires (many of them), tracking apparatus and people, and helping the boots on the ground get to where they were needed.
Outstanding work by all!
