Please be advised Powhatan County offices will be CLOSED Friday, September 4 and Monday, September 7 in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

The Board of Supervisors approved Friday as an additional day off after the Governor announced State offices would close at noon on Friday in advance of the Labor Day weekend. Powhatan County follows the State holiday calendar approved annually by the Board and the County's Employee Handbook states that when the State grants a half-day holiday, the County observes a full holiday.

The Convenience Center and Powhatan County Public Library will be open Friday for regular hours and closed on Monday.

New Master Gardener Application is now open!

Powhatan County's new "Your Tax Dollars at Work" tool makes it easy to see how real estate tax revenue supports schools, public safety, infrastructure, parks and other essential services. The page breaks down the percentage of each tax dollar, showing how it is allocated across different local government functions and services. Residents can also enter their property's assessed value to get a better understanding of what a penny on the tax rate means for them and how it funds the different functions and services of the County.

Monday, August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day.

Since 2020, more than 43 Powhatan residents have lost their lives to overdose. Each number represents a person, a family, and a community forever changed by loss.

Stop by Village Park in Powhatan to honor the lives lost, connect with local resources, and hold space for the families and loved ones who continue to grieve.

Come join the Friends of Powhatan State Park for the 4th Annual Pawpaw Festival at Powhatan State Park on Saturday, September 19, 2026!

The festival will showcase local vendors offering delicious food, refreshing brews, unique crafts and adorable critters. Attendees can enjoy acoustic music performances, ranger-led programs and animal encounters throughout the day. Special event parking and admission will be $20 per vehicle, while annual pass holders will only need to pay $10 per vehicle.

The day will kick-off with a 5 & 10 miler Race directed by Virginia Adventures. Race starts at 8am and the course features a great mix of terrain on the exterior trails. Race proceeds benefit the Friends of Powhatan. The Festival will then run from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of Powhatan State Park. We hope to see you there!
