Last night at 1735 Pound and Brazeau fire departments were paged together for a barn fire at what's known as the old girl scout camp in the Town Of Beaver.

Pound & Brazeau responded with 3 engines, 4 water Tenders, 1 rescue truck, 1 ladder and 22 members.

Heavy black smoke was seen in the air after the page so Mabas Division 144 was activated by Marinette County Dispatch to a working still bringing in a water tender from Town of Stephenson (WI) and a engine and water tender from Crooked Lake FD, along with Coleman Rescue.

Dan Risner Excavating was called and responded with a mini ho to remove tin. Thanks Jeff for leaving your daughters volleyball game....sorry Chailynn we asked your dad to leave.

Due to the type of heavy fuel (tires, gas,propane etc.) in the structure it was a total loss as when it started it went fast within minutes.

We again Thank Marinette County Dispatch, Marinette County Sherriffs Dept. (kept general public safe and away) , Stepenson FD, Crooked Lake FD, Coleman Rescue, Dan Risner Excavating along with all other Mabas Partners for covering the areas of the depts. on scene.

Today we accepted a grant in the amount of $473,123.80 to replace our worn out 1984 Pumper Tender that is in very poor condition and struggled to pass DOT inspection. This helps tremendously to accomplish our main mission of preserving all life, property and the enviroment as well as lowering our yearly maintance costs tremoendously while keeping our members and public safe.

We want to Thank Mr. Tom Prue for his expertise and organization of paperwork as well as our whole gang! You will rarely see Tom on a hoseline or the jaws but you will find him at the desk crunching numbers, balancing accounts and keeping us in line and compliant. Like Tom said today, it is a team effort it takes all of us. This was several years of applying and we finally made it.

This vehicle will help the Village Of Pound and Town of Beaver as well as all our MABAS Partners to supply trustworthy equipment in times of need. With less and less volunteers equipment is critical to supply the best public safety we have to offer with dependable equipment.

We will always remember the history of why Pound started a fire dept in 1946 as a major disaster can happen at any moment and we will be ready to assist the best of our ability. We hope John Wendler is looking down and proud as he was another main guy that kept us alive and gave us drive to succeed and keep moving forward!

With school just around the corner and buses on the road, please practice defensive driving with 100% attention in our villages and rural areas. Accidents happen but we all can do our very best to try and prevent them.

Case #: C26-01812

On Monday, August 17, 2026, at approximately 3:05 PM, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a child that had been struck by a vehicle while on the roadway near the area of County Road H and Polley Lane in the Township of Aurora, Taylor County.

Taylor County Deputies, Gilman Police Department, Cornell Police Department, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, along with Taylor County Ambulance Service (to include Taylor County 1st Responders and Jump River 1st Responders), Cornell Fire Department, and Gilman Fire Personnel responded to the scene.

Based on preliminary investigation, the involved vehicle was traveling northbound on County Road H when a child stepped into the roadway causing the vehicle to strike the child, which sent the child into the east ditch. The child was later pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained from the incident. The driver and occupants of the vehicle were not injured. Further investigation revealed the child who was 8 years old was checking a mailbox located on the east edge of the roadway. The child then attempted to cross back to the west side of the roadway just prior to the collision.

Investigation of this incident is ongoing with the assistance of the Wisconsin State Patrol. No further details will be released at this time.

Our condolences go out to the family of the child and all those affected.

The beauty of MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System). It flows like a river. If these communities had a major event while they were helping other communities major event, they say a pre planned number and other communities move up to fill the void so there is never a void. Public Safety at its finest. Well done!

Today we completed your hose testing on all 5 trucks that carry several thousand feet of hose. 2 engines, 2 pumper tenders and 1 ladder truck carry hose supply. We do this testing and hire it out to insure all your hose can withstand high pressure for several minutes and is tested properly.

We are required to do this annually to meet NFPA standards, maintain our ISO rating and to accomplish our 3 priorities, 1. Preserve all life 2. Protect property and 3. Protect the environment. All hose passed with no failures. 1st time all hose passed since we can remember. Thanks Tom and John for the time assisting Fire Cat today!

Tonight we were very fortunate and added 2 new members. Lucas Broderick from Beaver and John Mahers from the Village of Pound. We also added Jake Cruz as a future member!

Lucas has allot of experience with heavy equipment working in the logging industry so he will be a great asset with running equipment and trucks. He is level headed so he will help calm some nerves on the tougher jobs. Lucas has a nice little family in Northwest Beaver. He will be one of the 8 Town of Beaver members. It took 2 years to land Lucas but like a good husband or wife their worth the chase.

John was on the dept. 10 years ago. He now retired from semi driving so he will be a huge asset in running the trucks safely. John raised a family right in the Village of Pound and lives 3 doors from our Station 1. We had our eye on his retirement and we were glad he said yes to coming back.

Jake is 2 years old and hangs with his Grandpa Roger. He was all smiles tonight and the years will go by fast. He will be helping us when our knees lock up as we will be old men when he comes off the future member roster and goes on the main roster.

Welcome to the crew guys, we sure are glad to have you!

Katies Subs....a little sub shop but a huge supporter of our dept. and the whole community. From the sandwich making during calls, food after local storms and disasters, supporting the youth to organizing community events!

Living proof success follows hard work! This long time gem is for sale so Paula can finally retire after many many years of ownership so if you were ever thinking of your own little shop....here it is with a nice little house or rental!
