Shortly after 3AM this morning, the Pound Ridge Fire Department was requested to Stamford in the Chestnut Hill area for a working fire. Tanker 3 and 2401 responded and operated on scene with Stamford Fire and surrounding mutual aid companies

31 calls in June. False alarms to structure fires. Outstanding work in the first half of the year by our members. We are continually proud of their effort.

Mother Nature had quite the main character entrance for Pound Ridge’s July 4th fireworks.

Shortly after 8pm, minutes before showtime, the fireworks were cancelled and the park was evacuated ahead of severe weather. During the evacuation Pound Ridge Fire assisted with shutting down road traffic so families could walk along the evacuation route.

Concurrently with the evacuation, PRFD handled multiple emergency calls as the storms passed: hazardous conditions, an MVA with injuries, and a mutual aid tanker run for a house struck by lightning.

We hope everyone made it home safely and rain or shine it was still nice to see everyone.

Under the right weather, fine fuels such as grass, leaves, brush can dry out in about an hour. That’s all it takes to turn a green-looking field into a fast-moving fire. We refer to these as, “1-hour fuels,” for exactly that reason: what looks safe in the morning can be ready to run by afternoon.

This is live footage from our 2025 prescribed burn at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, showing just how quickly under the right conditions a field can go up (total elapsed time is 4 minutes).
