Captain Travis Beach and Firefighter/Paramedic Cody Edwards had the privilege of working with students from North Kitsap High School’s Athletic Medicine classes today. The lesson focused on the fundamentals of emergency care, including initial patient contact, gathering critical information, activating 911, providing basic interventions, and performing CPR.

Students also had the opportunity to participate in simulated 911 calls with Kitsap 911 dispatchers, giving them hands-on experience in activating emergency services and working through real-life scenarios, including telephone CPR.

After 34 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Poulsbo, Lt. Bruce Lowrie has officially hung up his gear and entered a well-earned retirement.

A true Renaissance man of the fire service, Bruce began his career in 1992 as the department’s Fleet Mechanic, spending eight years keeping apparatus response-ready before stepping into the role of Firefighter/EMT in 2000. His drive to continually grow and excel led him to become a Paramedic in 2014, and in 2020, he was promoted to Lieutenant in recognition of his leadership and professionalism.

Throughout his career, Lt. Lowrie has been a steady mentor and trusted leader, teaching medical training, forcible entry, and peer fitness. Beyond the department, he served as a paramedic with the Kitsap County Tactical Emergency Medical Support team for the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office and contributed as a Senior EMT Instructor, helping shape the next generation of first responders.

Bruce shared that he felt privileged, even on his final day, to have a job he still enjoyed doing. Congratulations on your retirement, Bruce. Thank you for your service, your mentorship, and your lasting impact. Enjoy the ride!
