๐ช โค๏ธ๐ค๐ During World War 2 in March 1945, an American soldier was killed on a bridge over the Rhine River as U.S. forces pushed deeper into N**i Germany. Newspapers across the nation published an iconic photo of the fallen hero, but his identity was a mystery until this year.
Through painstaking research, an international team of researchers finally identified the man in the photo as Private First Class Charles T. Plog of Poughkeepsie, New York.
On this Memorial Day, the City of Poughkeepsie honors PFC Plog and all of the courageous men and women who have given their lives for our country.
(Special thank you to Karen Lagrange Cox and the researchers who identified Plog in the photo.)
