City of Poughkeepsie Homeowner Shanta A. Persad Saeteros Officially Declares Candidacy for Dutchess County Legislature, District 10

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Shanta A. Persad Saeteros, a dedicated City of Poughkeepsie homeowner and mother, officially announced today that she has been confirmed to appear on this year’s ballot as a candidate for the Dutchess County Legislature, representing District 10.

A newcomer to the political arena, Persad Saeteros is stepping up to provide a courageous and transparent voice for a community that she believes has been overlooked. Driven by the challenges she sees daily as a resident, her campaign is built on the foundation of confronting systemic issues that she asserts are not currently sufficiently being addressed or seem to be actively obscured.

As a mother of two daughters—one currently in the private school system and a toddler with special abilities—Persad Saeteros possesses a deep, personal understanding of the stakes involved in local governance. Along with her extensive experience in Government, Healthcare leadership, Human Resources and Business Administration, Persad Saeteros is dedicated to collaborating with colleagues on both sides of the aisle in reviewing, shaping and advancing legislation and investment, with thoughtful oversight of county infrastructure and capital projects that benefit all residents of Dutchess County. Her candidacy is a direct response to the concerns of neighbors who no longer feel safe walking their own streets, business owners struggling to maintain their livelihoods, and parents worried about the future of their children.

"I am not a career politician; I am a mother and a neighbor who is dismayed by seeing our city’s potential stifled by silence and 'business as usual' policies," said Shanta A. Persad Saeteros. "For too long, the issues facing the City of Poughkeepsie have been swept under the rug. I’m running for Dutchess County Legislature - District 10 to pull back that rug, to do the hard work and to be the voice for my constituents. We need to stop the revolving door of temporary fixes and start building a city where every resident, from our toddlers to our business owners, feels safe, seen, and supported."

A primary pillar of Persad Saeteros’s platform is a comprehensive and compassionate approach to the city’s homelessness crisis. She advocates for moving beyond band-aid solutions toward a model that confronts the problem head-on while focusing on healing. Her vision includes breaking the cycle of "revolving door" policies by implementing long-term support systems that offer those in need a genuine path toward a healthy, stable, and dignified life.

Persad Saeteros’s campaign will focus on:

Public Safety: Ensuring that all residents feel secure in their neighborhoods and on their doorsteps by supporting public safety initiatives and advocating for and securing funding and resources for law enforcement, firefighters and EMS services.

Affordability: Working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that the County Tax Rate remains low and exploring every available initiative to make Dutchess County more affordable for families, seniors, veterans, residents with exceptional abilities, businesses and working class residents.

Economic Resilience: Supporting local businesses as the backbone of the City of Poughkeepsie economy.

Advocacy for Children: Prioritizing educational resources and specialized support for children of all abilities.

Accountability: Preserving integrity - A real plan for Accountability, Transparency and Efficiency

With her official placement on the ballot confirmed, Shanta A. Persad Saeteros is ready to bring a fresh perspective to the Dutchess County Legislature and fight for the residents of District 10.

Today is the day! I humbly ask for your vote to represent the 8th Ward on the City of Poughkeepsie Common Council.

Together we can make meaningful changes from within city hall. We will reduce cars speeding down our streets. We will revitalize Spratt Park Pool into a beautiful hub of our community. We will repair our crumbling infrastructure and STOP the raising of our property taxes. Above all, we will govern collaboratively as residents of Poughkeepsie and the 8th Ward.

The City of Poughkeepsie doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

I am proud to have strong relationships with our county and state elected officials. These bonds will allow me to advocate for the 8th Ward to bring us essential grants to fix our crumbling infrastructure and replace lead pipes.

For me, it’s not about politics. It’s about getting the job done to the best of my ability for the great people of the 8th ward.

I will be knocking on doors and talking to my neighbors through 9pm tomorrow hoping to EARN your vote. Local elections matter, and all of our voices need to be heard.

Remember, as councilman I am committed to:
- transparent and collaborative governance
