The library is thrilled to partner with the at the Family Partnership Center today until 3 PM.

This beautiful Harriet Tubman statue is part of the Freedomwalk2026 and here on view for this special event.

"Freedom Walk 2026 is a 750-mile modern-day retracing of the Underground Railroad from Maryland to Canada. Led by historian Anthony Cohen, it commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence and honors the legacy of freedom seekers and abolitionists."

Humorist, Borscht Belt Museum archivist, and lifelong Catskills resident Allen Frishman grew up in a family of plumbers in the bungalow colony industry in Sullivan County. He's witnessed the great times, the decline, and the new beginnings. Frishman will share behind-the-scenes stories about his family's bungalow colonies, his plumbing experiences, and his extensive collection of rare and interesting artifacts.

Frishman will be selling and signing copies of his first two books, Tales of a Catskills Mountain Plumber and More Borscht from a Catskills Mountain Plumber.

is a modern-day retracing of the Underground Railroad celebrating the 30th anniversary of Historian Anthony Michael Cohen’s inaugural journey of the same route. We are excited that Poughkeepsie was chosen as one of only ten cities where Tony and his team will establish their base of operations!

Join the Library District at the community celebration on May 31, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Family Partnership Center, 29 North Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

The community is joyously invited to celebrate this historic journey with Tony Cohen and his team. This event will honor the courage, hope, faith, and unity that shaped this pivotal chapter in American history with a welcome from Mayor Yvonne Flowers, a blessing, music, reflections, remarks from Tony Cohen, and refreshments.
