Today, we honor the generations who fought for liberty, celebrate the progress that has been made, and recognize the work that still lies ahead. Juneteenth represents the enduring spirit of a people who transformed pain into power, struggle into strength, and dreams into opportunity.

As we reflect on this important day, let us recommit ourselves to building communities rooted in justice, equality, understanding, and unity. May we continue to learn from the past while working together to create a brighter future for the next generation.

Last night, I had the honor of attending the scholarship awards ceremony at Poughkeepsie High School. It was inspiring to see so many talented and hardworking seniors being recognized for their achievements and future aspirations.

I was especially proud to present the first-ever Caribbean Students Scholarship to three outstanding students of Caribbean descent. These students will forever hold a special place in the history of this program as they are the first recipients of this scholarship. This opportunity was made possible through the support of our community and funds raised through the Hudson Valley Caribbean Festival.

Bringing the Caribbean Festival back was always about more than celebrating culture. It was about creating opportunities, investing in our youth, and building pathways for future generations. Seeing these scholarships awarded was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

A special thank you to Poughkeepsie High School for allowing me the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful evening and to present these awards. Congratulations to all of the scholarship recipients. Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance have brought you to this moment, and I look forward to seeing all that you accomplish in the future.

Friday I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of . Not only was I able to attend, but I was also honored to present the Mayor’s Certificate of Recognition.

has come a long way, and I’m excited for the impact they will continue to have on our youth and community members of all ages. This is more than just a boxing gym — it’s a safe space for people to get healthy, relieve stress, build discipline, and become part of a family.

I’ve spent time there myself, and my son has as well. Thank you for everything you do for the community and for allowing my little one to participate in the ribbon cutting.

Congratulations again on this major accomplishment. I’m proud of the growth and looking forward to seeing what’s next!

Today I had the opportunity to witness history right here in the 6th Ward. 🏛️

Many people may not know that the City of Poughkeepsie is home to so much rich history, including being connected to both Lee Miller and Sarah Josephine Baker, two groundbreaking women who both lived right here in the 6th Ward.

Lee Miller was a world-renowned photographer, model, and war correspondent who documented World War II, including the liberation of concentration camps. Sarah Josephine Baker was a pioneering physician and public health advocate known for helping drastically reduce child mortality rates through advancements in maternal and child healthcare.

Huge thank you to the Poughkeepsie Public Library, Arlington High School history teacher Robert McHugh, and the Arlington High School students for helping preserve history and educate those who may not know the deep historical roots within our city.

Special thanks to the City of Poughkeepsie DPW for installing these markers and to the homeowners who allowed them to be placed on their historic properties.

Looking forward to seeing where the next historical markers are placed throughout our city! 🙌🏾

The City started off the New Year with the official swearing-in of the Common Council. The public ceremony took place at City Hall in the Common Council Chambers and was followed by the Council’s Organizational Meeting. We thank community members, friends, family, and local leaders for showing their support, and we look forward to a bright 2026.
