On May 12, 4-H Educator, Master Gardeners and members of the 4-H PDC traveled to Blue Mtn Elementary East and spoke about the 4-H Meet the Plants curriculum. It was part of their culmination project for the program. Each student in 3rd grade had the opportunity to plant and take home a tomato seedling, taste test “plant parts”, and participated in a story and PowerPoint presentation on gardening.

Of course it’s always fun to get pictures with current 4-H members, family members and friends.

On May 4 & 12, 4-H Educator presented “Anywhere Farm” to Kindergarten students at Perry and Tilden Elementary during their Ag Day. The story spoke on how you can “farm” anywhere. Each student then made a hothouse necklace where they can start lettuce seeds before planting them in their “Anywhere Farm”.

On May 18, 4-H Educator, Briana, attended the Blue Mountain Livestock Club meeting and spoke about dystocia in livestock. She wrapped up with a hands on activity where club members had to guess what “position the baby was in”.

Tonight (5/27), the Schuylkill Stampede 4-H Livestock Club visited Mease’s Meats in Pine Grove where they learned how to process a hog and make country pork sausage. All members also took a sample of the sausage they made home with them. A huge thanks to Mike and Tabitha and their employee, Barry, for a very exciting and hands on meeting.
